Great mini lathe, with a good selection of accessories available.

This is a very good machine which is easy to operate and not bulky at all. My only problem is the tailstock is hard to replace once removed. Maybe the machining is a little rough on the underside.

Works great only had for 2weeks but seems to have ample power. I am very happy with it

Works great

Does an outstanding job for what it is built for. If purchased new be sure to run the motor at high speed for 30 minutes to break in brushes on motor.

The Nova Lathe is very well built. It is the smoothest running lathe that I have used in 50 years of wood turning. Home Depot’s price was the lowest anywhere and it was delivered earlier than was originally stated. Well Done!

The lathe is simple to assemble, was set up and operating in an hour. Easy to operate, runs quietly and smoothly with surprising power for a small lathe. The tool rest was a bit rough but quickly fixed with lite filing and wax. The overall sturdiness of the frame and work accessories are it’s strongest feature. It has performed very well, on limited use.

As expected and hoped for – overall a very good tool.

It works fantastically. I let it run for 45min as per the instructions and has worked very smoothly. Only issue was that a very small piece fell out of the box, luckily I spotted it but it took me some time to figure out where it belonged and even longer to try to put it back on. Nothing critical

I switched to this lathe from my WEN lathe of similar capacity. I also purchased the extension bed. I like the variety of speeds available with this lathe. I do not like that I need to change the belt between different pulleys as I do a lot of different types of turning. Needing to change the belt is something I do a lot because there are projects that I need to sand as I am working. If I am turning with the fastest speeds it is too fast for sanding. At least the variable speed for each pulley combination is available to turn fast, but sand slower. The belt cover is a little cumbersome as well since there is a thumbscrew to open the door rather than just a simle latch mechinism. I do have an issue where the extension bed attaches to the lathe. It is very tight when moving the tailstock through that area. I need to take some time to sand or file this area to get it to move without needing to force it. The quill does not have a lot of travel. This is not idea for using the quill for drilling, especially pepper mills. The motor does run smooth. I turn items from as small as rings & bottle stoppers up to 11″ bowls & platters. The motor handles it well. I have not had any issues with bogging the motor down while turning. During drilling operations with larger forstner bits it does tend to bog down & at time the bits catch and cause the belt to squeal (My bits are not high quality so that does not help). The ability to index the spindles is nice to have although I do not use that function.

The lathe worked great. The variable speed control was extremely useful.

Great lathe for the price.

Overall very satisfied with this lathe. I’ve been rough turning bowls as at about 8 to 11 inches so far by the time I get them round. There are a few positives and negatives so far, but I’d definitely say that the positives outweigh the negatives. This is my first lathe, andI did a lot of research before buying this lathe. I still think its the best midi lath for the price out there. Its pretty light weight, which is good if you need to move it around, but if will start rocking on you if you don’t clamp it down or bolt it down to something sturdy.Pros:-variable speed and low speed range are great. The variable speed is easy to use and worth paying for. I never mess with the belt, just put it on the lowest speed range and adjust with the knob. Very convenient.-easy set up, everything lined up great-good tool, if I don’t mention it I the cons section, then it works great.Cons:-Tool rest is small (6 in). Minor inconvienice, I did a lot with the 6 in rest that it came with and it is an easy thing to replace/upgrade down the road.-Tool rest post is soft metal. The metal gets chewed up by the set screw that holds it in place (see photos). This is a minor inconvenience, but shows that the metal is probably weak/soft. In my case, (mind you I was going fast on a large walnut bowl) I had a catch when I wasn’t centered on the post, and the tool rest broke off the post. See photos. Since it is small to begin with, I was thinking about replacing it anyway. Now I don’t have a choice, but its easy to replace.-belts slips and can limit the power. Especially with larger bowls, it isn’t too hard to stall the work piece. You have to take your time, but it still works great. -tailstock slips. I’ve cranked the tailstock to support a big rough bowl (using the Nova G3 chuck) to help keep it parallel to the bed and found that if you really tighten the wheel on the tailstock, the whole tailstock assembly can slide away from the headstock slightly. Probably best to protect the headstock. It still holds pretty well.I give it 4 stars because of the tool rest breaking. Other than that and a few minor things in my opinion, this is the best first lathe you can buy for this price. Definitely would recommend.

Works great! came in great condition only had to put on five or six parts (took two mins). One thing though you have to brake in the morter’s brushes by letting it run without any load on high speed for 40 mins. But it works and runs great! very happy with it 🙂

Nice, well made little lathe. Works well, has decent power. No complaints so far, other than the thought that the tool rest could be a bit longer (or two could be included with the unit. Purchased two for my high school woodworking shop, so we’ll see how they hold up under real-world conditions.
