Love it. The ability to reverse during sanding it great. Also the ability to change speeds with a restart switch is the best feature. I keep it on the middle belt setting and the speed switch allows me to have perfect control of my speeds.

For the most part exelant lathe, I’ve only had it for a short time but I love it. Id rate it a 5 if it wasn’t for the tool rest have had my comet ii for about 2 weeks n the tool rest broke. Don’t feel this should of happen im dealing with support now on fixing the problem. Other than this issue it is a great machine. Would recomend it to anyone looking for a great lathe, foot note order a replacement tool rest when you order the lathe.

This is my first wood lathe so my experience is limited, however after much research I feel I made the right choice going with a variable speed lathe. This lathe has a lot of options for its price point. I did watch a review online that warned of poor handleing during shipping and experienced this first hand as mine showed up with a cracked bed. HD sent it back to Teknatool no questions asked but it was frustrating having to wait another two weeks for the replacement one. As far as tool performance and operation I give this item five stars.

With the 3/4 HP rating, I expected more power out of this than it has. If anything, it felt weaker than my old 1/2 HP lathe. Very underwhelming. The toolrest comes painted, which does not allow the tools to slide. Immediately it started flaking off. Ended up returning for a better model. It’s fine for small projects, but don’t expect a robust lathe.

I really like the Nova Comet II. It does make some excessive noise even though I ran the motor to break it in per the book. When running with the chuck it is quieter but with a pen mandrel it makes some loud noises.

Guide bar is a little small, but besides that it works great
