This is a great chuck. Solidly built, it also has a set screw so you can reverse for sanding. Looking forward to getting more jaws to go with the chuck.

Good chuck. Use it with the Nova Comet II midi lathe. Easy to set up, but had to remove some oil/rust preventer. It clamps well and is easy to use. It comes with one of those screws heads with is awesome to use. If you order a lathe, order a chuck to go with it.

The chuck itself is a good tool, being 1-8 is the most common thread nowadays it seems so it is easy to transfer from machine to machine when going from my lathe to the lathe I use at the turning club. I have not had occasion to purchase any extras for the chuck as of yet, such as extended jaws, etc.2 issues that I have found so far. The first, not really an issue unless you are stopping a large piece of work, the set screw that tightens the chuck to the headstock screw. If you are running your machine in reverse this screw needs to be tightened, but it tightens down on the final thread instead of flat portion after the final thread. Not a Real big issue if you tighten the screw at the same place every time, otherwise you run the chance of starting to strip threads. My machine does not have a clutch brake so when I turn the machine off I grab the spindle handle to help slow the piece to a stop. If there is a large heavy piece on the chuck and the set screw is not snugged down that large piece may just keep spinning off the threads. Personal experience, fortunately I had a glove on and grabbed it before it spun off the spindle completely.2nd issue has to do with the T-Handle, the bar that makes the ‘T’ is only pressed into the tool, if it comes loose it is a pain in the butt to get it to stay in place. I used some CA glue on it last night, hopefully that will hold up for a while, if not I’ll look into other options. All in all, I would recommend this chuck if you are on a budget.

I bought this chuck for my Harbor Freight 10″x18″ lathe and it is a direct fit to the 1×8 threading on the drive, so no worries there. The fit and finish on the chuck is flawless and it holds TIGHT.I really like the fact that this chuck is compatible with almost every other Nova jaw set made, meaning you can have one chuck for almost everything. If you’re a pro, or just getting into turning, I highly recommend this chuck. It’s a must have and a decent value.Seriously, get one. What are you waiting for? Click the button and get one. 🙂

Another must have item for the Nova Lathe, quality is top notch and solid steel. Don’t drop it on your foot! The ability to lock it into position albeit with a hex screw, is really important to enable reversing the lathe for sanding operations.
