Man oh man are they ever HUGE. You really need to be a large, muscular person to operate these effectively. I didn’t realize they were going to be so huge (my mistake…they say 48″} I just didn’t think that meant they were four feet tall! They do work but you need to be strong to operate.

These are heavy duty commercial cutters the kind the fire department carries on their trucks. They are 48” long, weight about twenty pounds and the jaws open wide to about 3/4”. The long handles and compound-action means more leverage less body strength is required to cut through bolts, steel cable or fencing. The con is they can be awkward in tight spots and heavy to work, a trade-off that goes with their capability. You won’t need all that leverage for most jobs and can just choke up on the handles. I used it on some steel cable and it just sliced through it cleanly and would make short work of any bolts or lock shackles. The real test is if the jaws dull with time which I haven’t had long enough to have an opinion. If you check the prices of comparable cutters its a good value, too. The cutters are well made, have a reserve capability for more jobs that is nice when you do need to use them.

I just finished building a house and used a manual rebar cutter to compare this thing with, and I will say, this is a well built, very heavy duty cutter. It is heavy and takes a bit of muscle to lift it and use it, but when you do the cut, the metal will be cut. I like the adjustments it has to set the width of the cutter blades, which could be used to increase or decrease its power depending on the metal you are to cut. I absolutely like this heavy duty tool and it would be a good addition to someone who needs to snip fencing, or bolts or rebar during their work.
