These are easy to use and folded up fit in my tool bag, they are designed to cut BOLTS, threaded rod and even chain link fencing but please don’t use them on case hardened steel, I see one reviewer tried cutting a lock thats case hardened, this in NOT what these cutters were designed to be used on, a matter of fact the only way to cut a lock is with a carbide cutting wheel like you see on the TV show “Storage Wars” they always have a carbide wheel cutter to cut locks off storage containers. Sadly the reviewer who used his bolt cutters on a lock chipped the blades then gave this product a low rating. These are a good value for the money and great for the home owner who needs them for cutting nails, bolts or heavy wire.

Perfect bolt cutter. Easy to store as it is foldable and does it’s job effectively. I was redoing a bench with rusted bolt heads. Cutting the bolts was a breeze and it made it super easy. I highly recommend this bolt cutter for it’s small profile and effectiveness.

These cutters are a nice concept with the folding handles to save space. However, this feature indeed makes them a bit flimsy. I bought them for cutting wire shelving. They cut the very thin wire easy, but the thicker wire was a task to get cut. The cutters bent out of place slightly, where the blades are not meeting completely to close. Therefore, they’re not sturdy or durable. Will be taking them back and getting something else.

I was a little suspicious of the “folding handles” on this tool, but I’m a convert. The hinges are very sturdy, and they don’t make the tool feel flimsy at all. This is a pro-grade tool, with hardened steel jaws, I-beam cast handles, and a nifty mechanism for locking the folding part in place. On non-hardened steel, I cut a 3/8″ bar without too much trouble — that’s about as far as the jaws opened. It handled a 1/4″ lock shackle without much trouble.

The main reason I got this set of bolt-cutters is because they are easy to store. The handles collapse nicely and they don’t take up a lot of room in my car or garage. They cut bolts and small, cheap locks alright but they fail with Master Locks. I tried to cut one and the cutting heads actually became indented while barely piercing the shackle (see image). They do not have “heavy-duty cutting strength”, as advertised.The fact that the handles are collapsible does not negatively effect the cutting strength. The mouth is wide enough to fit most locks but due to the size of the cutters and the not-so-durable cutting heads, it is an impossible chore for Master Locks. I recommend these cutters for small jobs.

The 24 inch bolt cutters might have been better for my project (cutting wire closet racks/shelving) but these worked. Cutting the smaller wires of the shelving was a piece of cake but the thicker ones took quite a bit of muscle causing the rubber grips to shift a little but not enough to be a problem. These will get me through the next four closets and many more miscellaneous projects, I’m sure.They do fit nicely in a tool chest drawer when folded. For the price I consider it money well spent.
