If you’re thinking of defending your 9.7" iPad Pro from much of what life has to throw at it, then it may be worth considering a black Defender Series Case from Otterbox. This case features a two-piece polycarbonate inner shell surrounded by a synthetic rubber outer layer for additional shock protection against drops, bumps, and scratches.
Attached to the outer rubber layer are port plugs that help guard against dust. A clear polyurethane screen protector is built into the inner shell to help shield your touchscreen against scratches, scrapes, and scuffs, without diminishing the display’s visibility. Internal foam cushions the back of the tablet while keeping it from moving around inside the case.
The included shield stand snaps onto the front of the case for added touchscreen protection during transport. When not needed for protection, it may be snapped onto the back of the case. The inside of the shield stand has a built-in foldaway stand for viewing movies or typing, functioning in both portrait and landscape modes. There’s also built-in storage for an optional Apple Pencil.

This case not only protects the iPad, it keeps the on/off switch from being pressed when the iPad is in tight quarters. My only complaint is the lack of video or written instructions from OtterBox on how to take apart the case and then reassemble it on the pad. It is not easy with a new, tight fitting case nor especially intuitive.

After 20 minutes of trying, I realized it just doesn’t fit the new iPad 9.7″. The iPad is too thick for this case and I can only assume it’s meant for an “older” 9.7″ iPad? From a consumer standpoint, Otterbox will have to refit this case for the new iPad 9.7″.

I found this case to be very easy to put on the phone. I feel very confident that it will protect my phone and I am glad that I made the choice to purchase this. I do not have any issues with the additional size and I also find it very easy to place into the belt holder with no problems.

I have had other otterboxes and love them. This one not so much. The dust covers for power and headphones are hinged on the front side and are a pain to open and you make the connection. The iPad doesn’t fit well in the upright stand and pops out all the time. The upright stand is therefor basically useless. It is also very hard to remove the ipad from the case, you need strong hands to do it.

I purchased an Otter Box for my new I pad, based on not price but the protection it offers. I have had two other Otter boxes before on different phones. One phone was dropped down two flights of concrete stairs. I thought for sure I would be buying a new smart phone. Not so… my Otter box protected the phone from any damage at all. My last phone purchase of course got a Otterbox as well and it too survived a rough ride. I left it on the back of my Harley. I drove off with it on the rear fender, and fell off on the street at probably 25 MPH. The protective case was scraped but the phone again was not damaged in the least. When I just purchased my new I-Pad Pro, I wanted the same protection for it. There were cheaper cases for sale but you get what you pay for and I wanted Otter Box protection for my equipment!

Little heavy for a lot of people especially my 84 year old mom. The charging port is hard for her to install or remove charging cable. We had to take off hard plastic stand. I am confident when she drops iPad it will survive the drop. I would not buy this again for elderly person but I would buy for myself in a heartbeat Before COVID I would be able to exchange for different cover

Otterbox protects your device like nothing else. While it’s a bit bulky you can be sure that your device is safe. Several years ago I dropped a IPad Mini down a flight of steps and landed on a tile floor… my iPad was safe and sound. I have them on my iPhone as well and I beat the heck out of that and it too is always safe. As always, B&H is great to deal with!!

I suppose it does what it says, but for the price I expected better quality materials, precision, and feel. 1. The outer rubberized back piece has a very strong unpleasant odor out of the box. 2. The hard plastic parts have the look and feel of polystyrene. 3. The clear plastic sheet intended to cover the screen of the iPad Pro does not have the clarity of acrylic, looks cheap, and feels unpleasant. Basically, I expected this iPad case to be a larger version of a well made iPhone case, and the screen cover to be super smooth and clear – it isn’t. That clear plastic cover is attached to the top outer plastic part with an adhesive, so if you don’t want to use it you have to manually detach it by an appropriate means. If you don’t expect a super good look and feel of your iPad case and assuming the odor from the rubberized outer will go away with time this case will be acceptable.
