My 11 year old son just got a new iPad Air 2. We bought him the Otter Box Defender case because is provides the best protection at a decent price. In fact, this is his 2nd Otter Box Defender case. The first one was for his 4 year old iPad Mini. Both cases are well made and hold up in all conditions. A friend of my son’s scratched the screen protector with a stylus. We called Otter Box and they happily shipped us a new one at no cost. I am impressed with both the products and the company. I highly recommend the Defender series for children and those with butter fingers.

I suppose it does what it says, but for the price I expected better quality materials, precision, and feel. 1. The outer rubberized back piece has a very strong unpleasant odor out of the box. 2. The hard plastic parts have the look and feel of polystyrene. 3. The clear plastic sheet intended to cover the screen of the iPad Pro does not have the clarity of acrylic, looks cheap, and feels unpleasant. Basically, I expected this iPad case to be a larger version of a well made iPhone case, and the screen cover to be super smooth and clear – it isn’t. That clear plastic cover is attached to the top outer plastic part with an adhesive, so if you don’t want to use it you have to manually detach it by an appropriate means. If you don’t expect a super good look and feel of your iPad case and assuming the odor from the rubberized outer will go away with time this case will be acceptable.

My husband asked me to pick up an Otter phone case for his new iPhone. I asked him if I should look at other options but he said, No, Otter is the best one, I’ve always used it and I want to stick to it. My wife has an older iPad mini 1 with an old Defender Case that has seen better days (my wife can be somewhat hard on her gear). Without any rhyme or reason the iPad could not be powered up or powered off. I removed the old Defender case and the iPad worked fine. So I ordered a new Defender Case which has obviously been revised and improved, especially around the power button. The new Defender Case has a beefier build and functions flawlessly. The iPad mini looks brand spanking new at a fraction of a full replacement cost. Long story short: happy wife.
