Connect a half-length, full-height, single- or double-width PCIe card to systems with a Thunderbolt 3 port using the Mercury Helios 3S Thunderbolt 3 PCIe Expansion Solution from OWC / Other World Computing. Built with one PCIe 3.0 x16/x4 slot, the Mercury Helios 3S is useful for expanding the connectivity of systems like the iMac, Mac mini, or MacBook Pro, which do not have the PCIe slots needed for pros working in creative fields. Instead, this solution connects to Thunderbolt 3 hosts to leverage this connectivity via PCIe expansion that is outside of the computer. It can be used for video capture, digital audio, an SSD, 40GbE or 10GbE network adapters, SAS controllers, Firewire, USB, or eSATA host adapters, and more.
The Mercury Helios 3S features two 40 Gb/s Thunderbolt 3 ports, one of which is used to connect to your host Windows or Mac system and provides up to 85W of power for device charging. The second Thunderbolt 3 port, which provides up to 15W of power, can be used to daisy-chain up to 5 additional Thunderbolt devices. There is also a DisplayPort 1.4 input that supports connecting up to an 8K display.
Included with this chassis is a Thunderbolt 3 cable, an external power supply, and a power cable. Protection is provided by a limited 3-year warranty.
Please note that the Echo Express SE IIIe does not support GPUs. Also, if the installed PCIe card uses more than 25W of power, plug in the power adapter to your host.

Works great as a hub/dock as well, only critique is that there is no on/off switch. Works on OS 12 and the M1 Max as well

This thing worked perfectly out of the box. I dropped in an SDI card and my computer recognized it immediately. I’m impressed by the build quality and no-tool design. I also appreciate the extra TB3 port and DP port. This device is well thought out and suited for it’s job. I love that it turns my TB3 laptop into a desktop whenever I need it to be.

Was in need for extra outputs for propresenter stage display, this is the answer. I highly recommend this product

Picked this up hoping to use it with a Blackmagic Decklink Quad 2, but despite the way this is marketed, it does not work with this card. There is no list of compatible cards available anywhere, so be aware you may be in for some trial and error.

Fantastic build quality and easy installation. Everything working just great on latest Macbook Pro 2019. This unit is also charging my Macbook without any additional cables. I just plugged in one USB-C to Macbook and everything working with PCIe card and charging simultaneously. Fantastic!

Needed to use a Black Magic Decklink Duo 2 with a I-mac. Worked like it was made for Black Magic Deck Link Duo 2. Seamlessly turned the card into an stand alone piece of hardware. Can’t say enough good about it.
