Add USB 3.0 and eSATA 6G storage to your compatible Windows or Mac system with the Mercury Elite Pro Dual 2-Bay USB 3.0 RAID Enclosure from OWC / Other World Computing. This enclosure is pre-configured for RAID 0 via hardware and is designed for creative workflows, HD video, project archives, and system backups in environments ranging from production studios to home offices. When configured as RAID 0, this enclosure provides data transfer speeds up to 407 MB/s.
Within the enclosure are two SATA III 3.5″ drive bays. While no drives are included with the Mercury Elite Pro Dual, they are required for use and once installed, can be hardware configured as RAID 0, 1, SPAN, or Independent modes, each of which offers performance, data redundancy, or a combination of both. However, please be aware this enclosure is hardware configured as a RAID 0 volume, which provides increased read and write speeds, but no data redundancy. Another advantage of this enclosure shipping with no drives is that users will be able to outfit it with drives of their choice.
This volume will be recognized on systems running OS X 10.6.8 and later, as well as Windows XP and later. When connected to a compatible Mac via USB, the Mercury Elite Pro Dual may also be used as a boot drive, and connectivity is achieved using an integrated 5 Gb/s USB 3.0 Type-B port, or an integrated 6 Gb/s eSATA 6G port. For those who do not have USB 3.0, the USB 3.0 port is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 at speeds up to 480 Mb/s. To help ensure a smooth operating environment, the enclosure uses a cooling fan, and its included 100~240 VAC power supply runs at 50/60 Hz to help ensure worldwide compatibility.
Also included with the with the OWC Mercury Elite Pro Dual is a 2.0′ USB 3.0 Type-B to Type-A cable, a 3.3′ eSATA 6G cable, and a power cable. Protection is provided by a limited 3-year warranty that includes complimentary Level 1 data recovery for one year.

Filled it with 2 4tb drives and all went well. Quiet and fast. Couldn’t be more satisfied. Very fast shipping

Smaller than it looks drives were a bit hard to get installed. I did find that if you mounted the front screws first on each one, it helps hold it in place while you connect it up Doesn’t have any monitoring software like a hardware raid controller or card might. So this qualifies as a fake raid, I think. It does use the same jmicron controller as a Vantec unit I also have, and it recognized by that software. So it will email me in failure.

Works exactly as I want it to. Installed 2 WD Red drives in RAID 1. Setup was easy and everything works as expected.

I usually love OWC’s stuff. I decided to use this RAID with a couple 4TB 7200 drives. Worked great for about 6 months (I work these things hard), then, always in the middle of a render or file transfer, the drive would suddenly unmount, creating major problems for whatever programs were working from it at the time. A simple shut off / turn on would remount the drive. As time went on, the errors became more common. I wasn’t sure if it was the enclosure or the hard drives, so I bought a new one, and bought new hard drives to go with it. Again, worked great for about 6 months, then started randomly disconnecting again. Not acceptable for professional work with high bandwidth, I’m afraid. So I have two OWC drives that I don’t feel safe using for intensive work. Maybe I’ll make them backup drives or something, where the stakes are lower. Sorry, OWC. Gotta look elsewhere.

I bought this to add two 14TB WD Ultrastar hard drives. This thing can handle two 16TB hard drives but I decided to stay with Western Digital instead of Seagate. Easy to install, and works beautifully. Also looks like a mini MAC PRO.

Great product, feels incredibly solid for safekeeping of precious, precious data. Very thorough documentation on assembly of the unit, I didn’t have the usual new hardware anxiety plugging it in for the first time. There was a bit of a learning curve, which was totally operator error, getting the enclosure up and running in Windows. Be sure to initialize through disk management and not through storage volume. I set up a RAID 1 array through the latter because I read what turned out to be a questionable third party tutorial. What followed was a lot of frustration trying to mount the drives. The support chat with the manufacturer pointed me in the right direction and I reset the enclosure, and properly set up the HDDs through disk management. It’s been running like a top since!

I bought this enclosure to install 2 2-TB WD Red hard drives in a RAID 1 setup for ripping CDs to. Appears to be be very well-made and HD installation was easy. Still trying to figure out how to install it in my NAIM STAR all-in-one player system, but i am sure it will work out.
