Came in good condition, it also had some blank discs so I could test the machine to make sure it worked! That was thoughtful.

I have a huge number of pictures stored on blu ray discs. They are large files as I keep the raw copies as well as jpg. This is a joy to use when looking at my old blu ray discs because it so fast. I needed a device that would be compatible with my iMAC and USB3. This has fit the bill nicely. It burns very quickly as well. It is a bit loud when displaying the images though. My biggest fear was that it would not play well with my MAC and that has not happened. I plugged it in to the iMAC and was burning discs immediately using TOAST.

This drive has surpassed expectations. For just a little more than an Apple Superdrive you get so much more capability. Was using it in less than two minutes of opening the box!

When I went with a new laptop for video editing that did not have a DVD, Blu-Ray burner installed. I checked out B&H’s website. I knew that I did not want the flat, small, plastic external burners I already owned and did not like. The Mercury Pro is built like a tank. I like the fact that in order to load a disc, you must access a draw, drop the DVD in the holder, not snap the DVD on to a center piece. In the short time I have used the Mercury, I’ve successfully burned 10 Blu Ray discs.

I rip hundreds of cds and dvds to back up my library of music and movies. I wore out a LG super drive after years of good service and now wanted to also try Blu-ray. The build quality of the enclosure is solid and I plan on using this one as much as the old drive. First Blu-ray and dozens of cds and dvds starting out just fine. B&H comes through again.

Works great with all discs and it also looks very well next to Apple products!

I love the write speed when doing Blu-Ray discs. As a photographer, I have over 3 million images stored on Blu-Ray and the write time on this has saved me a lot of time compared to my original 4X writer, and even over my 12X write.

I tried another brand of drive on my brand new iMac computer and it didn’t fair so well. Might have just been a bad drive or whatever. Compared to the Mercury Pro though … no contest. Do NOT hesitate to get this drive. This drive is AWESOME. Worth every penny.

Gotta hand it to OWC. Quality products and can always expect them to work as expected.

As burners go, this one has the bases covered. Heavy duty design, with a number of options to burn every format except toast (maybe its an option-haha). I bought this burner to replace my built in burner on my iMac. It has worked flawlessly so far. My only criticism is that I cant operate it from my keyboard (open and close), not a big deal. As far my specs go Im using USB 2 and Mac OS 10.6.8 so this may be a contributing factor to it not responding to my keyboard. As Ive said, a great drive (in fact Im buying another one. Thank you Apple for not including a Cd Burner in your latest offerings of iMacs.)

I had and older Buffalo CD, DVD, and BD-R Reader/Writer that was rated at 1/4 the speed of the OWC Mercury Pro External USB 3.0. Additionally the OWC Mercury cost over a $100 less. I also am impressed with the aluminum housing that encases this device.

After buying a number of less expensive Blu Ray rippers/writers to hang off my iMac – literally all of them inconsistent in quality, speed and ability to get the job done – I decided to try spending a little more money to buy this drive. I couldn’t be happier. Yes, if you’re using it to hang off a laptop and need to take it out of the home, it’s likely too big and bulky. But if you’re not, it’s the very bulk, construction and solidity of the disc tray that makes it a far better choice. I rip and write a LOT of material,, from CDs to DVDs to Blu Rays. In every case the OWC, with its Logitech writer, not only does the job consistently, it does it faster as well. When ripping CDs, I’m getting speeds of between 35 and 40 times, so ripping a 75-minute CD now takes around two minutes. Previous name brand (but less expensive and less sturdy) devices, despite claiming similar speeds, never got beyond a little over half the OWC’s rate. While it’s too soon to tell, I also suspect this device will last much longer than prior devices I’ve used. I think the idea of taking what is essentially an internal drive and putting it into an enclosure that allows it to be used externally makes the OWC, quite simply, a far better choice, Yes, with a Mac, you need to get third party software to rip DVD and Blu Ray audio; ditto software to watch BlU Ray discs; but between shareware and inexpensive options, you can get your environment set up for a one-time cost of about $50. The OWC is also truly plug and play on my Mac. I plugged it in, and it worked immediately, both with existing Apple software (iTunes and DVD player) and with the third party software I use to rip DVDs/Blu Rays, and to watch Blu Rays. So if you’re looking for a sturdy device that does the trick far better than flimsy, in relative terms only slightly less expensive potions, and aren’t looking for something that needs to be portable, then this OWC device is the one for you! Sometimes it’s worth spending a little extra money; you get what you pay for, as they say. And I couldn’t be happier with this OWC writer/ripper.
