A very high quality device, one of the few things I have purchased lately that’s worth every penny of the cost.

Excellent unit, very professional finish with stainless case. Have only used it for reading CDs so far (over 50 in one session) and no issues so far. As a side note, had to buy an additional adaptor from US to AUS power plug.

Purchased this to use for the occasional need to read a DVD/CD on a MacBook Pro which will not power most plug in optical drives but the OWC Mercury Pro has it’s own power supply so no problem!

A Blu-Ray disc would only play audio, which could relate to my Mac and Blu-Ray software. I tried a DVD for troubleshooting purposes, and it wouldnt play it at all. So this product is basically worthless. On top of that, it is huge, heavy and ungainly.

I was in purgatory with my old LG blurry player/writer from 2015. On my iMac it would work to read DVDs 70% of the time and Blurays about 25% of the time. Towards the end of its life, it would start up a Blu-rays disc (after I entered my Bluray reader software) and bam! It would stop working – or worse – turn my entire computer off! THIS player is sublime because it works with no hiccups EVERY TIME. Because I don’t purchase movies often, I ONLY buy Blu-ray’s when I want to have my own copy of a film – it’s such amazing quality! I am finally enjoying these Blu-ray’s again! Thank you, OWC!!

I haven’t tried all the different options and capabilities of this device but it works like a champ! Very easy to connect to my pc and no set up to deal with.

Never heard of OWC but when I got the product it has the LG logo on it. It is very solid, with its metal body. When the tray opens it is the usual plastic tray that holds the media. I had bought an Asus external burner just about a year ago and was getting error messages when I burned dual layered blurays for storage (using Cyberlink’s Power2Go 8). With this product I not only got my blurays to burn without errors but it burned it in about 15 minutes less than the Asus did (I was using BDR-DL from Verbatim at 6x speed in both drives). I haven’t tried burning a BluRay video yet with the OWC drive but being that the data discs burned seemlessly I don’t foresee any issues (if I have any problems I will report it to this review in the near future). So far, I love this external burner!

It does what they say it does.

The unit is rugged and impressive. OWC includes two free 25GB blank Blu-ray disks and a 2′ USB 3 cable. The user can download free backup software and disk labeling software. The burner is an LG M-DISC Blu-ray unit, disc tray loading. I had already loaded free Bu-ray and started it with a new movie and it played fine. I bought it to archive my 20+ years of photos on M-DISCs; the ability to play movies and music is a big bonus. Of course, great B&H delivery.

I think the LG BE14NU40 is discontinued now and if you’re looking for a replacement, the OWC Mercury Pro External USB 3.0 Blu-Ray Reader/Writer is perfect. This is basically a very well designed enclosure containing an outstanding LG WH16NS40 drive that works perfectly. It’s quiet and fast and it performs consistently flawlessly. This one is a little bigger and heavier than the LG BE14NU40. It is certainly an upgrade.

Much better then my old Lacie burner. I have burned about 150 DVD-R s on it. No complaints yet…

Worked fine for the first 11 months then the drive would not read any discs. I tried multiple discs of varying formats with no luck. I mostly used it on my iMac but I also tested it on my PC with no change. I don’t think the enclosure is the issue, it appears to be a drive issue (made by LG). Would not recommend this unit.

Could not be any simpler. No drivers nor software needed for the drive. True plug and play. Very solidly built. Just connected it and then turned on the computer – Windows 10 Pro with a fast Alienware machine. Loaded Cyberlink Power Director 16 for burning and it worked without any settings needed. The drive was just there like it was native to the system. Have not tried DVDs or Mdiscs, but suspect it will work fine with those. Played some music CDs perfectly. This is one nice piece of engineering at a very reasonable price.

The setup was easy and this works extremely well with my iMac.

This was the best disc drive I ever had, for about a month. Now all it does is make a loud awful banging sound over and over and fails to read discs. It sounds like a 1990s industrial song. Still waiting for a response from B&H about my email.

now consider it junk It continues to play DVD’s but completely non functional as Blu-ray player, will not even eject them normally, have to power down and power up to eject Blu-Ray discs if you want to consider it an expendable with limited life, then this is your Blu-Ray accessory BH has no support other than telling you to call OWC, a waste of money finding reliable Blu-Ray software for it for latest Mac OS is also an elusive process overall it is money thrown out
