Keep your edge with the Aura Pro X2 480GB NVMe SSD Upgrade Kit from OWC / Other World Computing. Designed for installation in a Mac Pro desktop computer (late 2013), this internal flash/SSD drive upgrade features a PCIe 3.1 x4, NVMe 1.3 interface and a custom blade form factor. The drive uses 3D TLC synchronous NAND flash memory with advanced SLC caching to deliver sequential data read and write speeds of up to 1549 and 1351 MB/s respectively—up to twice as fast as the factory-installed drives.
The Aura Pro X2 is designed for macOS High Sierra 10.13 and later, taking full advantage of the advanced features of APFS including strong encryption, copy-on-write metadata, space sharing, cloning for files and directories, snapshots, fast directory sizing, atomic safe-save primitives, and improved file system fundamentals. The drive reserves 7% of the overall capacity as free space to perform background maintenance tasks that optimize the health, performance, and endurance of your flash drive. Additionally, the Aura Pro X2 is calibrated to consume only 5.7W during operation and to run cool.
The Aura Pro X2 comes complete with an Envoy Pro external enclosure that enables you to use your Mac’s original flash SSD as a fast, external USB drive with transfer speeds up to 426 MB/s. Also included are installation tools, a heat sink, a USB cable, and an Envoy Pro carrying case.

easy to install, works as it should be. before install, I made a full backup using time machine via a usb-drive. then install this SSD put the orignal SSD from my Macbook pro to the Kit. Connect both the recovery usb-drive and the SSD Kit to theMacbook pro. Reboot with the recovery usb-drive, recover from the SSD Kit and it was done within an hour.

This is the perfect SSD HD for a mid 2015 MacBook Pro. The kit comes with 2 tork screwdrivers used for removing the screw that fastens the HD. It was pretty easy to swap out the HDs. Takes about 10-15 minutes if that. I will say to be very careful not to strip the HD screw when unscrewing it. Besides that this is a great SSD HD upgrade kit and I’m definitely enjoying mine.

I just finished using the OWC SSD Aura Pro 1TB upgrade as well as using the OWC 64gb RAM, and am looking forward to continuing to monitor the performance compared to the original 12gb RAM and 256GB SSD. Replacing the SSD was surprisingly simple – I used Carbon Copy Cloner – just the free trial – and copied my original SSD over onto the new internal from OWC using the included SSD enclosure (available as a kit from OWC or here on B&H). I bought the trashcan on sale three years ago (from B&H on Black Friday) I think and it was so much cheaper to buy the base configuration and make my own mods rather than paying out the nose for Apple’s upgrades. Plus I could spread out the purchases and have the extra, original SSD in the new enclosure. Win win.
