The SuperSlim USB 2.0 9.5mm Optical Drive External Enclosure from OWC / Other World Computing turns any 9.5mm slot-loading internal optical drive into an external solution. The enclosure makes burning and playing CDs and DVDs easy on Mac and Windows PCs. It’s powered via USB, meaning there’s no AC adapter needed, and ultrathin and lightweight for easy transport in your gear bag. While the SuperSlim is an attractive option for MacBook, and MacBook Pro owners wishing to retask a removed Apple SuperDrive, it is also a great choice for any 9.5mm optical drive even those with mounting tabs.
Please note optical drive not included

I expected some indication the device was functioning, a light, a new device or just showing up on the desktop. Thought it wasn’t working until I put in a CD. The instructions could have noted this.

I bought this because I had a trayless dvdrw from a laptop that went bad. The dvdrw installed and worked great. Absolutely no issues finding the drive or any functions. The only issue with the device is the there is no way to manually remove the inserted disk unless you plug it into a working computer

this enclosed my dvd drive. My dvd drive was cold now it’s snug ;).

This is a very straightforward device. Pay attention to the screws–one of them needs to be used in the back and it’s a special one–and the rest is relatively simple. Works smoothly. I’m very happy to have my superdrive back

took the drive out of the old MacBook pros that died. This works just fine. Not a heavy-duty enclosure, but makes the hook-up as it’s supposed to.

Works great. Houses an internal disc drive. Does what it needs to. I suggest using your own cord. I used it for my Macbook pro 15 2011 disc drive I pulled to do a data doubler for it. I don’t think the size of laptop matters. It does everything that your original disc drive did in your computer. I heard a lot of complaints about it not working with the DVD app on El Capitan. For me, it worked perfect. I suggest it. It’s even cheaper at B&H ($18) than at Amazon ($40). Easy to install, took maybe 10 minutes at most, but I did have to read the instructions to find the screw holes, which were a little tricky to find. It looks pretty good as well, and it’s pretty compact. I haven’t traveled with it, but my only concern is maybe it might get scratched easily. I currently have it plugged into my iMac. One of my biggest reasons to get it was because I have two computers, so one doesn’t have a disc drive, so I decided it would be good to take my macbook pro disc drive out and replace it with a hard drive and that way I can use the disc drive on both computers.

Excellent unit. Only complaint was that it felt flimsy when I got it but once the drive was installed properly it felt much more sturdy. would prefer it to have the USB cable attached like the Apple external Superdrive but no big deal really. No more than I use it right now.

Does what you’d expect. Not much to it, could be cheaper.
