Like @Matthew, I bought this dock directly from OWC (as a preorder before they became available) in anticipation of using it with the M1 MacBook Pro I bought from B&H (16GB RAM, 1TB SSD). As @Ricardo mentioned, with only two TB ports (thanks for that Apple!), one of which often needed to replenish the battery, it becomes nigh on impossible to use the laptop for any but the most mundane uses without more expandability. The good news – the HDMI port works fine – I also bought the BnQ 32 monitor and it just jumped on when I powered up the laptop. And the USB-C ports also work – usually. The bad news – the USB-C/TB port on the dock has not worked at all to date. I contacted OWC, who talked me though changing some startup disk security settings – to no avail. As I write this I await deeper response from OWC as I sent them a System Information report. And more bad news – when I connect the Crucial X8 2TB SSD to either USB-C port on the OWC dock (again, the TB port does not work at all – the drive never mounts) it does mount – but only for a minute or two – and then it suddenly dismounts (with the ever-helpful Apple warning about dismount your disk before removing it – again, thanks Apple!). Thankfully, I also have an SMK-LINK USB-C dock (also purchased from B&H some time ago – used it on the iMac I had before) which has 4 USB-C ports. When I connect that same SSD to one of those ports, it does not dismount itself after any amount of time. SInce I use that drive as the MacBook’s TB ports for the OWC monitor (to use the 32 monitor via HDMI) and the LMK dock to mount the SSD. And that works fine, until the battery starts going down. So, bottom line – be very wary about using this dock on an M1 Mac – at least until OWC figures out what is going on. PS – I have no axe to grind with OWC – I’ve bought all kinds of stuff from them for 10+ years and this is the first product that has failed me.

It was given as a gift, they were happy to receive it. No complaints from recipient.

I have x main needs for this type of dock. 1. does it travel well 2. USB ports, pass through power, HDMI out, card reader and LAN 3. Works on M1 mac and iPad with USB-C. This particular unit works great with both the MacBook Pro 13 and an iPad Air 4th gen. You do need your power adapter to get the pass through power option, but having a LAN connection on either device makes downloads/uploads run a lot smoother. There are some glitches when high power devices are plugged into the USB A 3.2 ports, where the power is lost and then restarts the dock. So, make sure that you are not hot swapping during a crucial transfer moment or when using the USB’s for devices like a camera or large format printer, etc. having this on the iPad will allow you to output the screen to an HDMI display and gain the benefits of additional ports that you can plug in a USB keyboard/mouse, etc. So definitely a win in my book as it does everything I require it to do, but like all travel docks, there is a limit to what you can plug into the USB ports without interrupting your connections, so be mindful of that in your workflow.

Although I bought this dock directly from OWC, I wanted to share the issues I am having here. When the dock is connected to Ethernet and I disconnect my MacBook from the dock, the dock crashes the entire LAN in my house. Further, OWC customer support has not been helpful at all and wants to blame the issues on my LAN, despite my isolating the problem to the OWC dock. Terrible customer support; poor quality product. The previous generation (without Ethernet) was a good product. Save your money and look elsewhere. I will never be purchasing anything from OWC in the future.

I’m using this dock with a M1 Macbook Air . The machine only have two TB/USB ports, so for using the machine is esencial to be able to connect the things that you ususally need. This dock just work, with the ports that I need. What else can you ask for?
