Removing the lid from a recently-opened can can be a delicate task of pinching and twisting to avoid sharp edges. By cutting on the side of the can, below the edge, the OXO Good Grips Smooth Edge Can Opener leaves no sharp edges behind. The sharp, hardened stainless steel cutting wheel avoids can contents and stays clean.
- Non-slip handles
- Patented side-wind mechanism cuts easily
- Lid pliers allow for no-touch lid removal
- Easy-turn, soft-grip knob

Bought as a replacement for a similar can opener. It works very well, seems to be well built and should last.

The OXO “Good Grips” smooth edge can opener came yesterday….just in time for the family dinner that I was sharing with my spouse, one of ours sons, and his family. On the menu was a can of sweet corn that needed to be opened. Up to this time, I have used the old hand-held opener that’s been with us forever…and was always arkward to use. So yesterday, I tried out this “neat” new opener. Well…it’s easy to turn because it’s a side-wind grip…doesn’t leave any sharp edge that could cut oneself. It fits one’s hand very comfortably…has non-slip handles and turning knob. It’s overall style speaks to the fact that the “OXO” manufacturer has figured out what is needed in a simple can opener that makes this “chore” simple, easy and safe. Thank you to this manufacturer for an amazing product.

These are the coolest things in the world. If you have not used one before you need to give it a try. The opener attached to the top ridge of the can and as you turn the handle it works its way around the can breaking the seal that holds the lid to the can. There are no sharp edges when you get done. We have owned a couple of these but this is by far the one with the best quality

Just what we were looking for. Works great and no sharp edges on the can.

These are great. Very easy to turn. They do take a few tries to get used to because they are easier than you would think and they don’t “Feel” like they are working. You will need to firmly pull off the can top when through cutting. I really like these and would recommend to anyone!

At first I was totally confused by this highly rated can opener. Once i got the hang of it I am extremely satisfied and will use no other. Like it says no more sharp can side walls or lids to deal with. Just be careful lining up the top of the can with the mark on top of the can opener for proper alignment. Also Home Depot has this item for the lowest price and with convenient store pick up.

Comfortable in the hand and easy to use. The horizontal cut leaves the can and lid without sharp edges. Good product for anyone.

The Oxo smooth edge can opener is great. A little tricky until you get the hang it as it doesn’t work like ‘normal’ can openers. My only issue was the shipping. Apparently UPS lost the package, but Home Depot dealt with them so I didn’t have to. But I love the Oxo can opener.

This gadget rates 5+ stars! Normal hand can openers take the center out of the top which is a bit jagged. British style openers which operate in a similar fashion to this one completely behead the can, leaving the sides, which are now the top, fairly sharp. The nice thing about them is the part that has been removed can rest on top acting as a temporary lid. This one does a better job. It was weird the first time I used it as it moved so easily that I figured it wasn’t cutting, when I tried to remove the top along with the ring nothing budged. Finally I realized what the little pincers attached to the tool were for. The upper ring of the can is actually split so the reason for the pincers is to get a grip on the small area that was cut. And yes, there is no sharpness at all! The lid can rest back on top which is another bonus. After going on an opening frenzy (lots of canned food for a few meals) I am used to the action. It does go so smoothly that while it feels like nothing much is happening, when it reaches the end, there is a difference. This opener has been very well designed, even someone with little hand strength could work it.

WOW! What a great can opener. Thoughtfully designed and appears we will have many years of service from it. The directions came in pictorial form and are easy to understand. I like the idea that this opener does not leave that sharp edge thus enhancing its safe use. The side “crank” also made it ideal for the needed leverage to open a can. I will purchase another for our summer home. Highly recommend this opener.

Nice substantial well made can opener. Takes a bit of thought to work it at first — it could stand to come with better directions, at least for me. Even my husband struggled a bit to figure out how to use it the first time, but once we did, it was really nice not to have sharp edges on the cans. It turns easily, it has a great grip that is comfortable.

strange design when I first looked at it. after trying 4-5 traditional style openers (that don’t work well) this one has never failed to open a can
