It did take a moment of “How does this work?” Since then I’ve open lots of can goods with ease.

This is a lot better than our old can opener, It locks on the can and is released by pressing a button on top. The knob to turn the can while opening it is of good size and has a comfortable feel to it. The lid holder when done cutting open the can is great, after opening the can and releasing the button to dislodge the can the lid is held with a magnet and you hold it over the trash can, press the button and the lid falls off, you don’t have to worry about cutting your fingers. It is a heavy duty opener and should last many years.

OXO Good Grips can opener is well designed. The sharp steel blade, smooth gears and cast aluminum parts should provide years of service. Operating and using the opener is surprisingly easy. I have an electric can opener that has gotten a tad worn. My new OXO opener clamps onto the can and the smooth handle is easy to hold. Turning the larger knob makes opening fast, smooth and effortless. I was happily amazed how easy it turned and cut open the lid. The magnetic stub hold the lid for easy disposal. Well made and worth the money.

This can opener has performed well so far, and seems up to the task for doing what it is designed for- opening cans. I gave up on electric can openers years ago, because they were hard to clean, and could never get them to work quite right after I would disassemble them for cleaning. This OXO can opener is easy to use, it’s easy on your hands, it removes the whole can lid and the magnet keeps the lid from falling into the can after the lid is cut. You can tell when the can opener is seated correctly, because the thumb lock will pop out. The big turning knob is comfortable to use, it doesn’t have any sharp edges to dig into your hands, and turns easily. It also has a thumb lever to release the lid from the magnet. This is a big improvement in design on a basic tool for your kitchen. I’ve had several manual can openers, and this is my favorite by far. I have several OXO kitchen implements, and all of them perform well and are easy to use.

This review is for OXO GOOD GRIPs Locking Can Opener with Lid Catch-1101780. As the primary family cook, I have made occasional use of this manual can opener for weeks. So far, I have found it to be the best manual can opener of this type that we have tried. We have purchased a number of electric can openers and have discarded all of them due to durability and/or malfunction issues. I appreciate the thoughtful design and apparent durability of this opener, having wasted money on purchase of several competing brands of locking manual can openers recently, the most recent, a touted locking manual Swiss opener product that I threw away in frustration a shortly after purchase. With the oversize cutter drive knob and comfortable handles, this can opener is easy to use. This opener features a magnet that reliably lifts lids off the cans and releases them for hands-free disposal. The window in the opener top allows you to quickly align the opener to the lip of the can and view the cutting progress so you know readily when it is completed. I like that positive, reliable lock and manual release feature, it holding the opener to the can securely and reliably, releasing the grip on the can with the press of a button. This product is sturdy and is constructed of plastic and stainless steel. It cleans up easily. Overall, this is a well-designed product and an appreciated addition to our collection of kitchen tools.

Good Grips is a household name that I have relied on for many years now. The locking can opener with a lid catch is by far the very best can opener I have ever owned. It provides a window on top so you can see if your alignment is right. The stainless steel cutting wheel provides a smooth cut. The handles lock in place to hold the can steady, and release with the push of a button. Plus, a magnet lifts the can lid so you don’t have to dig it out of the juice-I love that!

As of right now I would happily recommend this can opener. I had an OXO Good Grips that finally wore out after many, many years. I love the locking feature because it makes turning super easy. The “window” makes it easy to place and the magnet lid catcher is so nice because you don’t have the lid dropping down into the can. The lock took a little getting used to, but I was able to get it down pretty quickly. Easy cleanup, too. I hope I can look forward to many years of use.

Oxo Plastic not the best quality anymore, products should last longer like they used to

No can opener is perfect but OXO GOOD GRIPS products are pretty close. Most of the time the magnet will catch the lid and when it does you don’t have to touch the lid you just drop it in the trash. I have owner many can openers it my life and I can say the the OXO products are one of the best brands out there. There is no need to keep pressure on the handle because of the lock that snaps down once you pierce the lid which makes it much easier if you have arthritis.

It’s pretty good. Sometimes it’s a little difficult to get it to grip the can, but once it grips it opens perfectly.

OXO products are tops in my book. When they say “satisfaction guaranteed” they mean it. We know that even the best products can fail prematurely, but it is also nice to know that should that happen OXO is there to help. I like the simple design of this can opener. With little effort and a non-slip, soft grip handle the sharp stainless steel cutting wheel makes quick work of any can opening chore. The handles lock down on the can so that constant pressure while opening the can is not required. If you have to open a can by hand you’ll be happy to have an OXO Good Grips Can Opener!

Oxo makes another easy to use product. I like the lightweight of this can opener. There is a little getting used to using the button to open the handle. But this helps keep the handle closed while in use and while in the drawer. There is a magnetic part that catches the lid as the cut is finished. This takes a lot of the danger of trying to catch a falling sharp lid. It is comfortable in my large hands yet others with smaller hands make good use too.

OXO generally makes quality products in my opinion. The Good Grips locking can opener with lid catch is good quality, however, two of its features are less dependable. The way it works is that you unlock the handles with the gray push button. Then you secure the cutting wheel onto your can and push so the handles lock and the cutting wheel is supposed to grasp the can lid. I’ve found on a number of occasions that the cutting wheel doesn’t cut into the lid on the first try. Then you have to unlock the handles and try it again. I’ve found that you’ve to snap the handles shut with a lot of force in order for the cutting wheel to make an initial cut into the can lid. From then on it works well enough in opening the can. The oversized knob is comfortable and turns easily. The second feature I don’t find very dependable is the magnetic lid catch. The magnet is rather small and most of the time it doesn’t have enough magnetism to lift the lid up all the way, much less remove it completely from the can. So the no-touch removal generally hasn’t worked for me. The can opener overall seems to be well-made from sturdy material. The locking feature ensures that the can opener takes up a less space for storage. The locking feature is also a bit safer as it more or less hides the cutting wheel so you can’t accidentally cut yourself on the weel when taking the can opener out of storage.

I have no luck with can openers. It doesn’t matter whether I spend $ 75.00 or $ 7.50 on one. This opener from OXO seems to be doing the trick. So far so good. If it’s still working by Christmas, up that rating to 5 stars.
