This Pentek 150237 1 in. #10 Big Blue filter housing with pressure relief is suitable for high-flow and heavy sediment applications. The opaque blue sump is made of reinforced polypropylene for strength and resistance to chemicals, and the black cap is made of high-flow polypropylene (HFPP) for stiffness. The black cap has 1 in. female National Pipe Thread Taper (NPT) threaded input and output connections and a nitrile butadiene rubber (Buna-N) O-ring to ensure a watertight seal. A pressure relief button on the inlet side of the cap releases pressure in the housing for changing filter cartridges. The housing can be used with a 10 in. x 4-1/2 in. filter cartridge. It has an initial pressure drop of 1 psi at a flow rate of 15 GPM, a maximum operating pressure of 100 psi, and a maximum operating temperature of 100°F (37.8°C). This filter housing meets National Sanitation Foundation/American National Standards Institute (NSF/ANSI) standard 42 for quality assurance, and is for use in various high-flow applications, including residential drinking water filtration, food service and irrigation, among others.

Easy to install and so far doing great! Increased water volume compared to Whirlpool whole house filter it replaced. Carbon activated filter is taking care of the chlorine and sediment. No leaks at connections due to good use of Oatey thread tape…overall working as advertised.

Need to emphasis that the wrench is necessary to intall the filter without leaking.

This is a qualified “No”. In the item details, it says “Accessories Included”. They are not. You get the top, the canister, and an o-ring.I called HD, they said call Pentek. Called them, and was informed that the mounting bracket and the spanner wrench are not included, but that I could buy them from HD, they gave me part numbers. So beware if you are buying this for a new installation, the accessories are almost as much as the housing. The qualified part is that this is a replacement for a clear filter housing that cracked in less than 2 years, with a 50 psi water pressure. Lucky for me, the bracket I had could be adapted to the Pentek housing, and the old spanner wrench fit well enough to work. And the Pentek housing appears to be much more substantial than the clear housing was.

This filter system is good. I don’t know why HD advertises this online if they don’t stock it.

Nice filter, appropriate for what it was purchased for, a house in a remote village in Alaska. . Unfortunately the mounting bracket I bought with it is made for a much smaller filter and could not be used. I would like the correct bracket sent to me.

I may have overcomplicated the whole house filter thing by having Plumber Mark select and install the filter. I must say that the installation is a lot better thought out than it would have been if I had completed the installation. Now installed, this simple system works flawlessly and we could not be happier. We have a rather shallow well and definitely needed a filter. We did not know what to expect as to filter life and pressure drop. Since installation, neither has been an issue. Directions for installation seem simple enough but you’d have to ask Plumber Mark. Directions for cleaning are step-by-step and simple to follow. Filters are readily available from Home Depot but I stocked up anyway. I also have extra O-rings. It’s a good system. It works and the price is right.

It is big. There is a large variety of filter elements that fit Big Blue. It seals easily, does not need a wrench. It increased the flow of water over the old filter. I bought two and installed in series. I run one as a sediment and the other with a very fine micron element to feed my water softener.
