The CS540 Wireless Headset System by Plantronics is destined to be the new standard in DECT (digital enhanced cordless telecommunication) wireless headsets. DECT technology provides superb audio and eliminates interference from Wi-Fi networks.
The CS540 has all the features you could ask for in a wireless headset starting with its elegant, contemporary design and lightweight 0.74 oz (21 g) headset with one-touch call/answer, volume, mute and flash controls all at your fingertips. The headset provides up to 350 feet of hands-free operation with a replaceable battery which charges in three hours and lasts up to seven.
If that wasn’t enough, it also offers a noise-canceling microphone which reduces background ambiance ensuring exceptional audio quality and easing listener fatigue. While you’re the one listening, SoundGuard technology protects against sound levels above 118 dBA and Anti-startle technology detects and eliminates large and sudden increases in signal level.
Setup is simple. The CS540 base connects to any desk phone with the included telephone interface cable. To answer, simply press the call/answer button on the headset or for touchless operation, enable the auto answer feature allowing you to accept incoming calls by a simple lift of the handset. Once connected, you’ll experience high definition voice quality with advanced wideband audio technology and enhanced DSP (digital signal processing) making speech sound clearer and more natural.
New headsets can be connected to the base by simply docking them. Once a headset has been docked, you can then begin using it right away with the system. Conference in up to three additional headsets for enhanced collaboration and use the optional Electronic Hookswitch Cable or Handset Lifter for remotely answering or ending calls (each sold separately).
Please note! This headset is designed to work with most desktop phones on the market. For specific compatibility, please check the Plantronics website, where you can enter the make and model number of your phone.

In order to make a call on the headset you have to lift the HANDset off the phone itself, there’s a switch that allegedly allows you to get a dialtone just by pushing a button on the headset, but it doesn’t work. Its awkward to use and I got echos when using it on conference calls – no matter how I configured it or how close/far I got from the base unit.

Had this a little over a year and it has the usual superb technology I have come to expect from Plantronics. Only down side is the design engineers either fell asleep at the wheel or just didn’t care when it came to the over the ear headpiece. Loose fitting and fairly painful to wear for ANY length of time, let alone 7 or 8 hours.

unfortunately, a ‘problem’ i’ve had is the Lifter doesn’t lift completely every time and consequently, hangs up on a caller; if this can be adjusted, then it’s great! Also, if you have various incoming lines and you’re a distance away, there’s no indication of what incoming line it is…if there was software maybe that could say ‘Company ABC incoming call’ in the headset earpiece then one could know how to answer accordingly.

The instructions are awful. I still don’t know if I have it connected correctly. When I try to use it all I get is a loud ear piercing squeal. I have no idea what cords or connections I’m suppose to use. Two weeks after I got the unit, more cords showed up. These still don’t work.

Bought 5 in this batch. One stopped charging after two weeks. Appreciate Plantronics Warranty return policy, but in my small sample, that’s a 20% failure rate and I have to pay the return shipping. Have had other apparent battery failures with this model. Nice units when I don’t have to touch them again for 2 or three years after install.

After only 2 months of minimal use earpiece started to make very loud humming. Customers could not hear me speak. I have had other Plantronic headsets for my office that have lasted 5 years with no problem. Disappointed that this only lasted 8 weeks. Customer service is doing a warranty replacement but will have to pay s/h for returns.

This headset will not work with a cordless phone. It is also not compatible with telephones where the dialpad is integrated into the handset. It only works with phones that the handset is physically attached with a wire to the phone. Plantronics recommended this handset as a replacement for the CS55 (now discontinued). The CS55 worked just fine with my cordless phone, so it is not actually a replacement.

I do not like this product. The previous headset was much more comfortable and easy to settle into your ear. The ear piece does not hold tight to ear and the ear piece won’t “seat” into ear canal. Very easy to knock off. Bring the old ear piece back…

I spend a lot of time in my Real Estate business on the phone with Clients.Ease of use, clarity and volume management are critical. Although installation is easy, remember to order an appropriate Lifter for the phone handset and there are a few simple instructions for installing the Lifter that are missing. Once ready to install Lifter, plug in Lifter to cradle and then unplug power to the cradle for 10+ seconds, then restart. Plus, on the top of the Model CO54 cradle, there is a black button with arrow, depress that for 5 sec+ and then all should work fine. Well worth the purchase, price and installation effort. Excellent tech support.
