The CS540 Wireless Headset System by Plantronics is destined to be the new standard in DECT (digital enhanced cordless telecommunication) wireless headsets. DECT technology provides superb audio and eliminates interference from Wi-Fi networks.
The CS540 has all the features you could ask for in a wireless headset starting with its elegant, contemporary design and lightweight 0.74 oz (21 g) headset with one-touch call/answer, volume, mute and flash controls all at your fingertips. The headset provides up to 350 feet of hands-free operation with a replaceable battery which charges in three hours and lasts up to seven.
If that wasn’t enough, it also offers a noise-canceling microphone which reduces background ambiance ensuring exceptional audio quality and easing listener fatigue. While you’re the one listening, SoundGuard technology protects against sound levels above 118 dBA and Anti-startle technology detects and eliminates large and sudden increases in signal level.
Setup is simple. The CS540 base connects to any desk phone with the included telephone interface cable. To answer, simply press the call/answer button on the headset or for touchless operation, enable the auto answer feature allowing you to accept incoming calls by a simple lift of the handset. Once connected, you’ll experience high definition voice quality with advanced wideband audio technology and enhanced DSP (digital signal processing) making speech sound clearer and more natural.
New headsets can be connected to the base by simply docking them. Once a headset has been docked, you can then begin using it right away with the system. Conference in up to three additional headsets for enhanced collaboration and use the optional Electronic Hookswitch Cable or Handset Lifter for remotely answering or ending calls (each sold separately).
Please note! This headset is designed to work with most desktop phones on the market. For specific compatibility, please check the Plantronics website, where you can enter the make and model number of your phone.

I am in sales, so if people can barely hear me, they aren’t going to be buying anything. The worst part of it is that it isn’t every call. I first tried the troubleshooting that was on the website. That is a joke. With the 6 settings on the microphone and the 7 settings on the A-G “slider” you would be going through that process for hours to find out IF that is the problem. I also spoke with someone (ticket #4417942) about it. He was of no help. “Try setting the microphone between 3 & 4.” which he thought sounded great. But on my next call, the first thing the person says to me is “I can barely hear you.” Reading reviews on here and other sites shows that this is not an uncommon problem. But it seems that solutions are uncommon.

This is my 3rd Plantronics headset for work and it has been great for making and receiving calls.

This was bought for me by my company and compared to the previous Plantronics headset that I was using this is sub par! Even with the volume up completely everyone on the other end complains that they cannot hear me or I sound like I’m in a vacuum and very far away. Even though its lighter than the previous one it is way more awkward and does not fit around my ear as comfortably as the other one did. I would just switch back to my old one but the battery life is down to less than 6 hours and you can’t get replacements for it any longer. I am very disappointed in this version headset and can’t wait til it no longer works so that my company will find an alternate one to purchase for me!!!

I have been using since November. Great sound quality. Comfortable. Love the option of the over-the-head or the over-the ear. As well it is completely reversible for using in either ear.

We had a headset that started to have problems, but the base was almost new. We ordered this to save almost half what a new set would have cost. This headset connected easily to the base unit and worked great. I would definitely purchase this again. The product was good and B&H is always great to do business with.

Sound is great but the ear piece will not stay in my ear, should be easier to keep in.

I like the product but hate the way it fits. I can’t keep it in my ear canal.

The earpiece is comfortable and great as long as it is working. Seems to have to be replaced every 2 yrs. Not acceptable. Loses charge or just doesn’t set in charger to take charge.

While the headset design is great, the quality is not what I’ve seen in previous Plantronics products. I’ve experienced problems with audio (feedback) and use of the mute switch causing a loss of headset audio.

We have purchased 8 of these headsets. Our call center of about uses the new headsets for about 7 hours per day. I have not had a single complaint. We have received compliments from customers about the clarity and sound quality.

As soon as I took my first phone call while the headset was my ear, I realized that the Alert notifying me of an incoming call was like a Fire Alarm going off in my head. I contacted support after I realized that the volume control did nothing to minimize the Screaming Beep. Support confirmed that it is a Set tone and Volume and that it can’t be adjusted.

The only way I can tolerate this is to use it with the accompanying headset piece – and that is not very comfortable. The one I had a year ago was awesome, why did they move the battery to the boom and make the inner ear tube flexible?? And the ear silicone is not round, my ear does not like the design, very cumbersome. This one is terrible and will not hang onto my ear, are these seriously 300+?? Think there is a reason it has an average of 3.3 stars…

I really like this headset. It’s very comfortable for long periods. Sound quality is good on both ends. I just wish it had lift to talk. I got used to that on my old one.

I am a headset fiend. I have a lot of different headsets. This earpiece is THE most comfortable because it doesn’t cram into my ear. I prefer the the noise canceling qualities of the Voyager series, etc.

I’ve had this for about a year. Worked great – good sound, battery (for my purposes). Then, about 3 months ago the mute button stopped working correctly – when I press it in, it mutes and un-mutes immediately – didn’t do that before – I have to press it 3 or 4 times for it to work properly. Also, any time I want to adjust the volume now, it shorts out the audio/mic for about 5-10 seconds, then comes back on. Not ideal when in the middle of a conference call – especially when hosting it.

After some minor adjustments the sound is good. I had a lot of static until i turned down the sound on the base. Still not plugged into my phone the way it should be…running it through my old plantronics heatset base… still working on that. One complaint is the over the ear piece. I take mine off and on during the day. It’s not easy to put on correctly and I hit the on off button by accident. I wish the over the ear did not need to plug into my ear.

My boss purchased this for me to begin using in November. At first it has a bad echo. Customer support was very helpful with that. Then the sound began to crackle and the volume would get low. Eventually it would cut off during the calls. Plantronics has been very good in customer service and after trying more things, and even trying it with a different phone, they are replacing it in early February. It simply has not worked well most of the time I’ve had it, and I really hope the replacement works better.
