Made of 3D TLC flash memory, the XLR8 CS3030 uses the M.2 form factor and a PCIe 3.0 x4 interface. This SSD features a max sequential read speed of up to 3500 MB/s and a max sequential write speed of up to 1050 MB/s. Do more with less with NVMe, such as boot up, power down, and load applications up to six times faster than SATA-based SSDs.

I installed these into a bare OWC 4M2 Accelcior pcie carrier and the device was quickly identified as a device needing initialization by the native Disk Utility. I chose raid-0 so it’s really just a big (and fast) scratch disk at the moment. The OWC-supplied configuration software (write down or photograph the S/N before installing!) seems to still be in beta, but provides a comforting blue light to remind me of its presence, and the impressive (and free) BlackMagic disk speed tester says I can run many things without complaint. The cs3030 installation was quick and without incident.

Very respectable speeds at a great price. PCIe gen 3 is more than quick enough for most use cases. Personally using the 2TB as a data/game storage drive. Maybe splurge for the gen 4 on an OS drive if you are looking for extreme performance, but this is more than enough for most people.

The CS3030 looks great on paper: TLC NAND, DRAM cache, 5-year warranty, and good performance at a reasonable price. Also, I’ve had great success with PNY products in the past. After having installed it a month ago, I am still very happy. Crystal Disk Mark shows speeds almost exactly as advertised.
