Designed for media storage, use as a boot drive, or as a replacement for an existing drive, the 1TB CS900 SATA III 2.5″ Internal SSD from PNY Technologies allows users to store and access up to 1TB of data. It is equipped with a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface that is compatible with SATA II 3 Gb/s and fits into your system’s 2.5″ / 7mm drive bay, providing load and access times for files and programs that are faster than those of a traditional spinning hard drive. In terms of speed, this drive offers sequential write speeds of up to 515 MB/s and sequential read speeds of up to 535 MB/s via its Triple-Level Cell (TLC) NAND flash memory. In addition to its enhanced data transfer rates, this drive also offers a life expectancy of 2 million hours MTBF, TRIM support (OS dependent), and S.M.A.R.T support.
With solid-state drive technology you benefit from load and access times for your files and programs that are faster than a conventional 7200 rpm hard drive. As SSDs have no moving parts, they are also more durable than traditional hard drives and are better protected against damage from drops and bumps. Having no moving parts also means that SSDs receive less wear and tear, as there are no read or write heads for the drive media to come into contact with. SSDs also help to deliver improved battery life and cooler operating temperatures. Supported operating systems include Windows, Mac, Linux, and Ubuntu. A 2.5mm spacer is also included, which allows this 7mm SSD to be used in 2.5″ / 9.5mm drive bays. Protection is provided by a limited 3-year warranty.

Just got around to installing this drive and nothing will see it.

No fast, 440mb/s

I have installed about a dozen of these drives into older laptops. I have not had any issues at all. In general SSDs will improve the performance over mechanical hard drives, but for top performance you want a drive with the highest IOPS. This one rates high (near 90K for both read and write) compared to most. NOTE: If you motherboard supports M.2 SSDs, that would be faster than the SATA SSDs.

This M.2 works great and is a bargain at this price. This is NOT an NVME! So order it only if you need an M.2 Sata III.

I am working on a server project and I needed 2 small SSDs to put the OS on. These drives completed OS installation much faster than the 2.5 HDDs that were present before. So far, they’ve been nice and reliable for daily use

I have several of these SSDs. They work fine as system drives in multiple Windows 10 computers, and storage drives internally and in external drives. I don’t know that more expensive models could improve on it. The good pricing on them makes them unbeatable for me!

Wanted an easy cheap upgrade to speed up my PC. Works like it should.
Rocky Schaefer (verified owner) –
Do not have a benchmark for comparison purposes, but this drive has my laptop running much faster than it did with spinning storage.

Quality SSD at a great price point. Will return here again for future purchases

I use this store games, photos, videos, anything that needs fast access. I wouldn’t recommend this a main drive due to lack of DRAM cache. If you don’t do a lot of R/W to your drives this is perfect.

Gave new life to an old laptop.

I managed to order the correct replacement / upgrade for my Acer Travelmate P459-m, and the PNY 1TB SSD has worked well for me.

I bought this to replace another brand 2Tb SSD that failed after only 4 months of use. The PNY came up easily and quickly and has been perfectly well-behaved for the last week or so. I hope and trust it can last as long as my other SSD, which has been my boot drive for around 3-4 years. I look forward to a long andfruitful performance.

For a SATA SSD, this thing is fast and efficient!

Fine for a cheap boot drive for a cheap bang around laptop. Being it does not have a dram cache it is not suited for large file transfers. But for an OS drive it’s more than fine.

This is my 3rd PNY CS900 SSD over the past 2 years. All have been good performers and completely reliable. I also own a Samsung 860 EVO 1TB, which performs =slightly= faster in Crystal Disk Mark, but the difference is not noticeable to the user. Attached photo shows results for the PNY 1TB (with Bitlocker enabled).

I purchased two of these drives to eliminate slowness on two older laptops. Boot times and software loading and installing times are much more bearable now. I would recommend and purchase again.

This is good for system backup: $25 or so t make a fast OS image as a backup.

I plugged it in, the BIOS registered it, windows installed beautifully, and everything seems to run pretty snappy. I haven’t gotten to use it a lot but everything seems okay for now.

So it’s a drive and it works, yay. But I learned the hard way that it won’t work as an internal boot drive in older Macs, only as external. Something to do with the Macs using Sata II. Apparently this is Sata III only and therefore not compatible.
