Designed for media storage, use as a boot drive, or as a replacement for an existing drive, the 240GB CS900 SATA III 2.5″ Internal SSD from PNY Technologies allows users to store and access up to 240GB of data. It is equipped with a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface that is compatible with SATA II 3 Gb/s and fits into your system’s 2.5″ / 7mm drive bay, providing load and access times for files and programs that are faster than those of a traditional spinning hard drive. In terms of speed, this drive offers sequential write speeds of up to 500 MB/s and sequential read speeds of up to 535 MB/s via its Triple-Level Cell (TLC) NAND flash memory. In addition to its enhanced data transfer rates, this drive also offers a life expectancy of 2 million hours MTBF, TRIM support (OS dependent), and S.M.A.R.T support.
With solid-state drive technology you benefit from load and access times for your files and programs that are faster than a conventional 7200 rpm hard drive. As SSDs have no moving parts, they are also more durable than traditional hard drives and are better protected against damage from drops and bumps. Having no moving parts also means that SSDs receive less wear and tear, as there are no read or write heads for the drive media to come into contact with. SSDs also help to deliver improved battery life and cooler operating temperatures. Supported operating systems include Windows, Mac, Linux, and Ubuntu. A 2.5mm spacer is also included, which allows this 7mm SSD to be used in 2.5″ / 9.5mm drive bays. Protection is provided by a limited 3-year warranty.

I bought this SSD for my Atomos Ninja Blade and its fast enough for Pro Res 422 hq the highest setting, not even a hiccup.

As I am typing these words, this is a very low cost SSD; even no-name SSDs have comparable prices. This isn’t going to be Samsung PRO SSD, but it doesn’t cost as much as one. The main disadvantage of a SSD at this price point is that its chance of failing is higher; as always, be prepared to recover should the SSD break down. The other disadvantage is that performance may be lower. In terms of speed, it runs quite quickly running Linux (CentOS 8); at no point did I feel the SSD was too slow. Then again, Linux is quite snappy with any hardware from the last 15 years, including older HDDs. For increasing the speed and capacity of an older system where the expense of a high-end SSD is not warranted, or for having a “how swap” SSD on standby to get running again should one’s main storage fail, this is perfect.

The old slow HDD was dragging her down, but after a cleanup and this fast new drive it was much faster than brand new.

very useful

Fine for a cheap boot drive for a cheap bang around laptop. Being it does not have a dram cache it is not suited for large file transfers. But for an OS drive it’s more than fine.

It arrived at the hotel the day after everyone left so….. yeah, rough.

I have installed about a dozen of these drives into older laptops. I have not had any issues at all. In general SSDs will improve the performance over mechanical hard drives, but for top performance you want a drive with the highest IOPS. This one rates high (near 90K for both read and write) compared to most. NOTE: If you motherboard supports M.2 SSDs, that would be faster than the SATA SSDs.

Yes, if you have an older laptop that needs a boost and you don’t have that much need for data storage these are for you!!

It’s much faster than the old hard drive. I’m not sure how it compares to something like the Samsung 870 evo but it’s good fast and reliable

I purchased two of these drives to eliminate slowness on two older laptops. Boot times and software loading and installing times are much more bearable now. I would recommend and purchase again.

I use this store games, photos, videos, anything that needs fast access. I wouldn’t recommend this a main drive due to lack of DRAM cache. If you don’t do a lot of R/W to your drives this is perfect.

I should have purchased 2 of these. Works great. Just what my computer needed.

This drive was everything I needed without an issue. Used it as a secondary bootable device for my computer. The performance and boot process are lightning quick. Will definitely buy for my other machines

Inexpensive and flawless.

So far so good! Bought this to upgrade my current 240 gb drive. The price seemed right. l, so I used Macrium Reflect to clone the old drive to this one via SATA cable. Took 40 minutes but worked beautifully: cloned all partitions and created an identical bootable clone. All I had to to do is pop it into my laptop and turn it on.

Gave new life to an old laptop.
