Designed for media storage, use as a boot drive, or as a replacement for an existing drive, the 250GB CS900 SATA III 2.5″ Internal SSD from PNY Technologies allows users to store and access up to 250GB of data. It is equipped with a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface that is compatible with SATA II 3 Gb/s and fits into your system’s 2.5″ / 7mm drive bay, providing load and access times for files and programs that are faster than those of a traditional spinning hard drive. In terms of speed, this drive offers sequential write speeds of up to 500 MB/s and sequential read speeds of up to 535 MB/s via its Triple-Level Cell (TLC) NAND flash memory. In addition to its enhanced data transfer rates, this drive also offers a life expectancy of 2 million hours MTBF, TRIM support (OS dependent), and S.M.A.R.T support.
With solid-state drive technology you benefit from load and access times for your files and programs that are faster than a conventional 7200 rpm hard drive. As SSDs have no moving parts, they are also more durable than traditional hard drives and are better protected against damage from drops and bumps. Having no moving parts also means that SSDs receive less wear and tear, as there are no read or write heads for the drive media to come into contact with. SSDs also help to deliver improved battery life and cooler operating temperatures. Supported operating systems include Windows, Mac, Linux, and Ubuntu. A 2.5mm spacer is also included, which allows this 7mm SSD to be used in 2.5″ / 9.5mm drive bays. Protection is provided by a limited 3-year warranty.

So it’s a drive and it works, yay. But I learned the hard way that it won’t work as an internal boot drive in older Macs, only as external. Something to do with the Macs using Sata II. Apparently this is Sata III only and therefore not compatible.

My laptop hard drive was acting erratically, so I thought that life span of it was nearing and end. So I purchased this internal PNY 1TB SSD drive and cloned the old drive to it and installed it in the laptop. when I turned the laptop back on it just started right up and worked. What a difference it has made. Boots up in less that 15 seconds now and works great . the laptop now seems to run much faster. A great buy and great recommendation to use this SSD by B&H staff.

Fine for a cheap boot drive for a cheap bang around laptop. Being it does not have a dram cache it is not suited for large file transfers. But for an OS drive it’s more than fine.

The PNY harddrive itself works great, was a good price, shipped quickly, and arrived packaged well. However, part of the reason I purchased this specific product from B&H Photo was specifically because the product description stated that the product was shipped with a licensed copy of Acronis True Image HD 2017 data migration software, which it does not. Unfortunately, B&H Photo is out for an extended Easter vacation, so they have been unable to respond to my requests for resolution. So, if like me, you are swayed with the advertising that the SSHD comes with a licensed copy of Acronis True Image, it does not. Also, can confirm that the product does not come with any mounting hardware like an earlier reviewer commented, however the screws from the SSHD that I removed fit into the new drive properly. The only reason you’d need new screws is if this SSHD is not replacing an existing HD.

So far so good! Bought this to upgrade my current 240 gb drive. The price seemed right. l, so I used Macrium Reflect to clone the old drive to this one via SATA cable. Took 40 minutes but worked beautifully: cloned all partitions and created an identical bootable clone. All I had to to do is pop it into my laptop and turn it on.

I have used many of the these PNY SSDs to upgrade older laptops. One of the best value SSDs with TLC memory. Never had one fail yet. Linux and these SSDs give new life to older laptops that can no longer securely run windows 7. Linux Lite 5.2 especially works very well as a replacement for windows 7, plus it’s free.
