Designed for media storage, use as a boot drive, or as a replacement for an existing drive, the 480GB CS900 SATA III 2.5″ Internal SSD from PNY Technologies allows users to store and access up to 480GB of data. It is equipped with a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface that is compatible with SATA II 3 Gb/s and fits into your system’s 2.5″ / 7mm drive bay, providing load and access times for files and programs that are faster than those of a traditional spinning hard drive. In terms of speed, this drive offers sequential write speeds of up to 500 MB/s and sequential read speeds of up to 550 MB/s via its Triple-Level Cell (TLC) NAND flash memory. In addition to its enhanced data transfer rates, this drive also offers a life expectancy of 2 million hours MTBF, TRIM support (OS dependent), and S.M.A.R.T support.
With solid-state drive technology you benefit from load and access times for your files and programs that are faster than a conventional 7200 rpm hard drive. As SSDs have no moving parts, they are also more durable than traditional hard drives and are better protected against damage from drops and bumps. Having no moving parts also means that SSDs receive less wear and tear, as there are no read or write heads for the drive media to come into contact with. SSDs also help to deliver improved battery life and cooler operating temperatures. Supported operating systems include Windows, Mac, Linux, and Ubuntu. A 2.5mm spacer is also included, which allows this 7mm SSD to be used in 2.5″ / 9.5mm drive bays. Protection is provided by a limited 3-year warranty.

Got this after the recent price decrease. Can’t say anything about Longevity but if you back up your data it shouldn’t be an issue

I’ve bought and installed several of these PNY CS900 SATA SSD’s of various capacities over the past 3 years, with great reliability and performance. I’ve become so confident in the brand that I have now bought a couple of NVMe models as well.

Not all SSDs are created equal. Make sure you check out the IOPS and the read and write speeds. PNY makes on of the fastest.

Solid drive as well. Bought for a friend. I have been using a similar drive for years now that’s why I will always recommend

I needed to upgrade a handful of older dual-core laptops but didn’t want to spend much per unit. These drives have been fast and dependable, well worth the price. Wish PNY would provide a software download to assist in cloning their drives though.

I have several of these SSDs. They work fine as system drives in multiple Windows 10 computers, and storage drives internally and in external drives. I don’t know that more expensive models could improve on it. The good pricing on them makes them unbeatable for me!

As I am typing these words, this is a very low cost SSD; even no-name SSDs have comparable prices. This isn’t going to be Samsung PRO SSD, but it doesn’t cost as much as one. The main disadvantage of a SSD at this price point is that its chance of failing is higher; as always, be prepared to recover should the SSD break down. The other disadvantage is that performance may be lower. In terms of speed, it runs quite quickly running Linux (CentOS 8); at no point did I feel the SSD was too slow. Then again, Linux is quite snappy with any hardware from the last 15 years, including older HDDs. For increasing the speed and capacity of an older system where the expense of a high-end SSD is not warranted, or for having a “how swap” SSD on standby to get running again should one’s main storage fail, this is perfect.

I bought these just to put the OS on a few older computers. Took book time from 40-70 seconds to 12-15. I converted the old 7600 rpm drives to storage and they are happy.
