Designed for media storage, use as a boot drive, or as a replacement for an existing drive, the 500GB CS900 SATA III 2.5″ Internal SSD from PNY Technologies allows users to store and access up to 500GB of data. It is equipped with a SATA III 6 Gb/s interface that is compatible with SATA II 3 Gb/s and fits into your system’s 2.5″ / 7mm drive bay, providing load and access times for files and programs that are faster than those of a traditional spinning hard drive. In terms of speed, this drive offers sequential write speeds of up to 500 MB/s and sequential read speeds of up to 550 MB/s via its Triple-Level Cell (TLC) NAND flash memory. In addition to its enhanced data transfer rates, this drive also offers a life expectancy of 2 million hours MTBF, TRIM support (OS dependent), and S.M.A.R.T support.
With solid-state drive technology you benefit from load and access times for your files and programs that are faster than a conventional 7200 rpm hard drive. As SSDs have no moving parts, they are also more durable than traditional hard drives and are better protected against damage from drops and bumps. Having no moving parts also means that SSDs receive less wear and tear, as there are no read or write heads for the drive media to come into contact with. SSDs also help to deliver improved battery life and cooler operating temperatures. Supported operating systems include Windows, Mac, Linux, and Ubuntu. A 2.5mm spacer is also included, which allows this 7mm SSD to be used in 2.5″ / 9.5mm drive bays. Protection is provided by a limited 3-year warranty.

I have used many of the these PNY SSDs to upgrade older laptops. One of the best value SSDs with TLC memory. Never had one fail yet. Linux and these SSDs give new life to older laptops that can no longer securely run windows 7. Linux Lite 5.2 especially works very well as a replacement for windows 7, plus it’s free.

What to do with a good old computer that is just a bit slow? Exchange that old slow disk with one of these. It is amazing just how much better the computer acts after adding some speed to the disk circuit. To install is super easy. Just remove the old disk, and install this one after attaching it to an adaptor. Transferring the programs and data is simple but takes a while. The easy way is to use a program like Clonezilla. First step is to copy the old disk image to a temporary disk. Then copy your old disk image to the new disk. Done and ready to use. The bonus is that you now have an exact backup copy of your disk.
