I am very pleased with the mini jig, it is easy to set and change and gives you a lot of help setting it up by diagrams engraved on it. It has many things you can do with it besides dovetailing which is nice. I bought and have used a cheap dovetail jig elsewhere and have got by, but with this mini jig I can make a better more professional looking dovetail, since i am starting to make more furniture to sell I think this will help with sales.

I am from Canada and could not find this product anywhere so I ordered it from the Home Depot in the US to be delivered to a US hotel during a recent business trip. I was a bit concerned that it would not arrive on the promised day, but it was there, in perfect shape and as promised.I have the other dovetail kits to handle larger cuts, but really needed this one for some grandkid’s toys I am making. Now that I have it, Christmas should be fun!

First of all the HD order went very smoothly and I had the product in a short time. The miniature template works well on the jig. However the two issues I had were: a) how to set the blind dovetail bit depth, and b) the instructions for the miniature dovetails are very sketchy. The manual references that the depth is factory set. This is not the case when you buy the template as an accessory so I had to spend a couple hours of trial and error to get it. The manual has a couple references to the mini dovetails but not very well covered. I ended up completing the two drawers that I had to do but it took most of a day. I probably could have hand cut nearly as quick. By the way, I didn’t waste my time with the high speed steel straight bit and bought a 3/16″ spiral carbide bit instead (which worked wonderful). IMO the product is overpriced for what you’re getting but HD was competitive.

Very easy to assemble with exception that the router bit depth setting should be set at the factory but that’s a minor issue. Porter Cable Dovetail Jig 4212 is absolutely all you need to create drawers and box joints.

Porter Cable has much more detailed instructions online. There are two sets, standard instructions which came with my jig, and what they call advanced instructions. Amazing what you can learn from the advanced.
