Unit is easy to set up. Quality of build, fit and finish is excellent. This little unit is a beast with heavy gauge templates and chassis construction. The instruction manual is wonderful with lots of well labeled photos. The instore delivery option worked great. Pricing on the item, I felt was terrific for what is provided. I would recommend to anyone wanting bj to do dovetail work – through, half blind, or sliding. Btw, there is a additional manual on line for more specialty uses.

It takes some thinking and experimenting but soon I think I will have it dialed in and be able to make some drawers. Overall I like the design. It doesn’t have a vacuum port so it blows chips around like a router does.

The jig was easy to setup but the instructions lack specific detail. Thank goodness for youtube videos. The included router bits seem OK until about the 10th cut. Using the small template, the bits dull rapidly and were frustrating to deal with the excessive tear out of the wood and the burning. I was able to complete one joint that fit tight and looked great. The next joint always had poor pins and I was unable to get them to work. I won’t be purchasing replacement bits from Porter-Cable due to the poor quality of the supplied. I’ll be contacting Porter-Cable to determine if they would like to send replacement bits. Another improvement would be the cam lock for holding the workpiece. The plastic support on the cam lock can become damaged if due care is not exercised when tightening. Then there is the stop guides. They are positioned at both ends and don’t permit travel to the middle of the jig. I’ll be modifying to correct this as I would like to use small pieces working from middle not the end. Finally, it would be an added benefit if the template had more surface to support the router base. Care must be exercised when routing around the fingers as the CG of the router could tip forward causing damage to the bit or work piece. A redesign of the template would make this Jig ideal. Overall I would give 4 star for jig and 1 star for the bits.

Whatever you do dont lose the manuel! This is a great jig and comes with most of the router bits and guides that you’ll need, except a 1/2” x 1” bit for box cut joints!

At first it seemed a bit daunting. But take a little time, read the instructions. I’ve never used a dovetail jig before. It helped to watch a couple YouTube videos. My very first time using it I made perfect box joints for cabinet drawers. Now I’m making dovetail joints that are very accurate and tight. Bottom line, I highly recommend.

The jig is great but the enclosed instructions were woefully inadequate. To get the best results one needs: a. Check out Several of the instructional videos on YouTube b.make sure you save a significant amount of stock to use for the multiple trial runs you will have to do to get a tight joint.

This is a high quality professional product which is fully adjustable to meet a wide variety of situations. I observed this unit being used by a professional woodworking instructor with well over 30 years experience in cabinet making and teaching woodworking. As a result of what I observed in his classes teaching how to use it, I made the decision to buy this to aid me in the construction of some cabinets. I have seen several less capable cheaper units that I did not feel would perform satisfactory for my use. I have not yet had the opportunity to use this because I am in the process of becoming more comfortable using my router. I know it is going to take a fair amount of time for me to develop the skill needed to properly use this device and I want to take my time learning how to work with my router better before I attempt to use it with this jig because improper use could accidentally damage it. I have made a portable base to mount it on since I don’t want to permanently mount it to a work bench.That way I can move it to different locations and clamp it to any suitable work surface. In a month or so, I might get up to speed enough to be able to discuss my actual experience using this jig.

Includes multiple templates, bits and bushings and I’m happy. Be sure to download the supplemental pdf owners manual from PC, as the basic manual is rather basic. Have patience! Tinker with it on scrap for a while and you’ll be cutting clean dovetails in no time.
