Porter-Cable’s D-Handle, fixed base 1-13/4 HP, 27,500 RPM router is ideal for woodworking, remodeling, trim and home improvement projects. Its D-Handle delivers a low center of gravity and a trigger lock-on feature for increased tool control in hard and soft woods and engineered material like melamine and PVC trim. Macro-adjust the tool with the cam-lock lever for simple edge-forming. Use the micro depth adjustments for bit depth changes accurate to 1/128 of an inch. It accepts collets for 1/4 and 1/2 in. shank bits and features an auto-release collet system minimizing frozen bits. I originally purchased this Router 16 years ago, it is a dependable and proven router. I’ve always preferred D-Handle over regular Fixed Base, it gives better control. This router can handle any handheld task that doesn’t require plunging and has plenty of power. I like it so much, I now own 2 of them. This router was also the main router used by Norm Abram on The New Yankee Workshop. Highly recommended.

I have had this router for years and overall has been a good tool in my woodshop but it quit workinga couple weeks ago. I was in the middle of a project and had to order another D-handle 691 from Home Depot. Opened up and took it out of the box to check it out and to my disappointment foundthat the cord from the motor to the handle seemed too short. This was always a problem with my other router when you make height adjustments turning the motor up or down in certain spots thecord was stressed to the max. I measured the cord on my old router at 15 1/4″. The new router cordmeasured at 14″…1 1/4″ shorter. When the motor was set 180 degrees, from where the cord comesout of the motor, to where the handle is, the cord didn’t set fully into the outlet of the D-handle.I would like to know why Porter Cable would “cut a corner” like this…to save $ on electrical cordage?It would have been nice to have a longer cord by maybe 16 1/4″, not shorter. I want this router butfind that this, at certain height settings, is not going to work for me…might arc. What a shame; willbe returning it to Home Depot tomorrow.

dept adjustment a little ruff , had to clean with 1200 grit sandpaper and then some dry lube , works great now . more than enough power for a hand held and very ease to control .
