The PORTER-CABLE 2.25 hp Fixed Base Router Kit features full-time electronic feedback to maintain motor speed throughout the toughest applications. With its variable-speed control (from 10,000 to 23,000 RPM), you get optimal bit speed for all of your many jobs. With the dual-position switch, you can cut the power while maintaining control of the router.

I purchased two of these routers. I am still in the process of setting them up. One is installed in a horizontal table. Because of its ease of removing the motor unit from the base, and ease of adjustment, and its ability to work at various speeds, this is theperfect router for this table. The other router is for a standard router table. It is held underneath by a manual lift unit. The baseis not used for this. Again the power and variable speed will make this a perfect router for this application. The lower speed willbe critical for larger router bits.

This is the best router I ever owned. Many excellent features that makes this router top of the line. Fine depth settings, Spindle lock, single wrench for bit changes, you can use 1/4 in. and 1/2 in. shank bits, variable speed, I especially love the smooth start and stop. It gradually picks up speed instead of that instant jolt. What I didn’t like- it says Fixed Base Router “Kit”. What kit? Everything is extra. Like the Template Guide, Edge Guide, Roller guide. I also bought another router, different brand, but it came with all those guides included. So why is Porter-Cable using the word “Kit” when this is a bare bone router. But I still love this router.

I prefer Porter-cable over DeWalt DW618. Used both routers for same jobs, Porter-cable is quieter, better speed control, & power switch. Used the same 3/4″ rabbeting bit w/ 1/2″ shaft in both routers, DeWalt had a lot of vibration. Easy to make own router table, has knob to adjust from above table.

Works well, high quality. I have other Porter Cable tools so I had a good idea of the quality. My only negative so far is the speed dial is a little difficult to adjust. I like the height adjustment and clamp system to secure the motor. The soft start motor is a very good idea for a hand held tool.

This router is awesome. The slow start and variable speed make it a joy to use. I really like the additional power switch located close to the handles. The included base plate does not accept template guides so you will need to purchase a different plate (about $8) it you will be using guides.
