The Porter-Cable 894PK 2-1/4 Peak HP Multi-Base Router Kit features a soft-starting, 12 Amp motor with full-time electronic feedback that maintains motor speed through the toughest applications. Motor transitions quickly between GripVac base (included), plunge base (included), and traditional spiral down bases (690 series, sold seperately). This kit includes Router Motor, Fixed Base, Plunge Base, 1/4 in. and 1/2 in. collets, Sub-Base Centering Gauge, Collet wrench, Carrying case, Operating manual.
- Variable-speed control feature (10,000 – 23,000 rpm) enables bit speed to be optimized for changing applications
- GripVac handle and plunge base both offer through-the-column dust collection for efficient chip removal and improved bit and cut-line visibility
- Plunge base features machined brass bushings and steel guide rods for a smooth, controlled plunge stroke
- Depth rod with 6-position adjustable turret enables stepped or repeated plunge cuts

This set meets or exceeds my expectations! I didn’t know that the motor is a soft-start, and it’s so quiet while running that you really don’t need ear protection (until you start cutting, so ALWAYS use hearing protection). I used the fixed base in my router table and use the plunge base for normal.

I purchased this specifically to make mortise joinery in table legs. To date I have used the plunge base with the PC edge guide (sold separately). It works extremely well and the dust collection using my shop vac is excellent. The clear shield around the bit works very well to provide proper suction and remains visible through the cut. I was very impressed with how well the overall dust collection system works.

I am using this in my CNC machine and it performs flawlessly. The only downside . . . I wish Porter-Cable would sell the tool only without the handles and case for CNC applications.

Router plunge base very good. Fixed base depth control came broken. Control good bracket is cheap plastic, not good for daily use. Will need to return fixed base.
