This router is very nice. Its height adjustment from above table is very easy however it occasionally slips. Haven’t done much with the plunge base yet but the little I have used it, it has performed well. The removed the latching mechanism for arbor lick that came on older versions of this model and I do miss that. That’s why I deducted one star.

Great router! Soft start, smooth operation, quiet, strong. Great price too! Only problem I had was that the spindle lock pin sheared off during a bit change. My store didn’t carry this model so, Home Depot had me return the product to the store and I bought a new one on line.Only improvement I would like to see done is to make the end of the spindle lock pin larger. The smallsurface is hard on the finger tip to push and hold with the strong spring it has in it.

I have owned a heavy duty Dewalt router for many years and it has served me well however this new Porter Cable router is much easier to use for many hand routing jobs and is easy to operate. It’s light weight, easy bit changing and smooth plunge action make it a true pleasure and I’m now looking for more projects requiring a router. I have only owned it for a short time so I can’t yet testify to how it holds up over time but so far-so great! I would definitely recommend this router based on my experience to date.

Bought as a gift. If it’s like any other of the Porter-Cable tools I own, then it’s sure to be a winner!!

This router feels solid, but not heavy and has a controlling yet comfortable grip. When mounted in a Bosch router table, upside down, the motor unit is a little sloppy in the original mounting base. However, the major and minor adjustments work pretty well. The recessed on/off switch is a little difficult to locate from the grip handles, which isn’t a terribly big deal in most cases, but should you need to turn the unit off quickly that might be a problem. The cord is reasonably flexible and long enough to stay out of the way when working. The soft start is truly an excellent feature as there is hardly any movement when getting up to speed. I would recommend buy this router again and recommend Porter Cable as an excellent product, made by people who seem to actually use what they manufacture. Five Star and thumbs up to Porter.

Arrived quickly, and the tool is great. The dust collection is pretty good. The plunge mechanism and soft start are very good. Overall a great purchase so far.

Excellent router!!! Porter Cable is the best! I also own one of their belt sanders and a plate joiner. I have never had a problem with any of them and they are rugged power tools. Porter Cable HEAVY DUTY, HIGH-QUALITY, Tools!!!

The 2.25 hp PC router was on my list for some time. I replaced a 12 year old Freud with similar performance characteristics that had died a slow death. The PC was the best choice and the above the table adjustments were a major selling point. I am very pleased with the purchase and HD had the best price.Mac

I purchased this item for the fine adjustment feature on the fixed base and the vacuum attachment on the plunge base. So far I have only used it to cut dovetails, for which the fine adjustment excelled.

I purchased this router to replace a router that was manufactured in the Porter Cable family, that was given to me as a gift over 40 years ago. For a couple of decades, I used that router almost weekly when I worked as a finish carpenter. So I had no reservations on purchasing another Porter Cable product. If this one lasts 40 years like the last one did, I will be 102! But who knows, I may still be playing around in my workshop at that age. One can hope.I would have to say that this is the second Porter Cable product that I have purchase recently (I recently purchased the PC dove tail jig), and the operating instructions are not really that good.I have a suggestion……A couple of months ago, I purchased a garage door from Home Depot and it came with a DVD that showed you step by step, how to install and adjust the door.I literally put the DVD in my laptop and had it in my garage and used it through out the entire process and I don’t think I would have had a successful installation without it.Perhaps Porter Cable could include a DVD with their products?

I did not give five stars only because that would be ‘Exceptional’. This kit is a very nice way to start out in routing – I bought it to go with a Kreg portable router table (I rate that 5 star for its kind). The motor unit is very smooth and quiet. The collets are sturdy and “c-clipped” to lightly retain the bits even when loosened. I bought this over some other routers because of two bases AND the top-side adjustment for the fixed base on a router table – someday I might afford a real Router Lift. The case for the kit is quite functional. The on-off switch is well designed for me – the ON position has the switch extended from the motor housing, so OFF is an easy and obvious push in. I have used this in and out of the router table and am very happy with my purchase. One critical review mentioned poor quality in the base. I would agree that it is not overbuilt, but I think that it is rather well designed. The same review criticized the the clear plastic base plates. I ordered a pair of Porter Cable black phenolic base plates because of the, and I am glad that I did (about $9 each) – they directly replace the clear ones. For installation on my router table insert plate, I could not find 5/8″ long 10-32 flat head screws to properly connect the fixed base to my table insert. You can order them on line from woodworking stores, but I tapped out the holes in the router base to use more common 3/4″ long screws. You may not have this issue depending on thickness of your router table insert.

The soft start is nice. It’s powerful and, once adjusted, quite accurate. I am not using this in a table. I have not yet used the plunge setup.

Easy to use and powerful. Love the variable speed control. Took me a while to figure out how to remove the motor from the sleeve while mounted on the router table, but now it’s easy to do. And I love being able to easily adjust the height. A pleasure to use!

Got this for my hubby for Christmas. He was VERY impressed with the quality, accessories and ease. He was a bit upset when he realized the original cost; but when I told him that a I got an EXCELLENT deal on Cyber Monday, he was again, happy.Delivery was fast! Good Job Home Depot and Porter-Cable

Everything you would come to expect from a high quality brand. Easy to use, easy to adjust, smooth operation, and relatively quite.

Exactly fit the need. Purchased specifically for us with a circle cutting jig that required a plunge base. The plunge based stays attached to the circle jig, used for speaker cut outs, and still have the fixed base for other work.Purchased after reviewing several products. One advantage with Porter Cable is that most jigs and accessories are designed to fit.Home depot had a great price on this unit.
