Good performance depth adjustment ok. Plenty of power

I bought this with the only router table available at the store. The table said it was universal. It would fit, right? Well, not given the holes specified in the manual. Joe played with the two and was able to connect them. I did have a little trouble with the depth walking, but was able to adjust it. Now I am happily working on my porch/converted work station.

It is very good and very good quality.

I needed a 1/2″ collet router for dovetails. This one does the trick, plenty of power, perfect handle locations. Only one down side, no dust collection.

Product is a good value for cost. It doesn’t bog down. Has plenty of power. I have mounted in router table. Very difficult to get wrenches in to tighten packing nut that clamps router bit. Wrenches are pretty cheaply made. The router itself is good.

This is my 2nd PC router. My first was a PC plunge router, which I still have and still use. This new one I bought because I bought a PC dovetail jig and it is much easier to use with 2 routers. Love my PC tools.

Great size and cost. It worked really well for what I needed.

Bought this router to replace a 30 year old Craftsman router that I finally fried. Works great! Since I have the router mounted in an enclosed Bosch router table, the fine tuning feature is not useful, though. But regular height adjustment is easy enough.

This is my second router. I also have the super-cheap ryobi that HD sells. That ryobi has cut hundreds of feet of baseboard fairly well. I bought the porter cable to use with a dovetail jig since the collars didn’t fit the ryobi. Maybe it was just a great excuse to get another router. Pro: it’s small and easy to handle. It’s powerful enough to use with normal sized bits – but starts to let you know that it’s working hard with 1/2 radius bits into hardwood. The depth adjustment ring – once you figure out how it works – is really awesome. That part is way better than the Ryobi. The lack of plastic gives it a very solid quality feel. The only downside is that the bottom plate has a very small hole that doesn’t support the use of alot of medium to large bits – but I guess that wasn’t what it’s made for anyway. The trigger is not on the handle – so you have to start it a ways from the wood due to the kick.

Great router, but returned as I needed a single handed D-Handle router. Porter Cable is my goto Router.

I bought this router to replace an older Ryobi that had a failing safety lock and could not be replaced or repaired. The Porter Cable is nicely built and the depth adjustment is much smoother and better built than my Ryobi. I have only used the Porter Cable a short time, but like the way it has performed.

Though the pictures on the documentation could be more clear, the router was easy to figure out. I quickly mounted the needed bits and set the height to cut some dovetails in oak like cutting butter.

good router. powerful and cuts well… changing bits can be a little cumbersome but at least its made well (steel nuts) rather than having some cheap plastic bit changing mechanisim

I am a contractor but also own a wood furniture business, I would really recomend using the porter-cable router because in this line of work, working with a piece of wood and the right tool can turn furniture making into an art form, I actually consider some of the people that work for me, great artists because after you see what they can make out of simple wood (helped of couse by this wonderfull tool) you can’t help but think that an artist did it. I will definetly continue to purshase porter-cable products for my shop!

Professionally I used to have 3 of these routers set up for different operations. They are darn near bullet proof. If and when something needs to be replaced parts are very easy to get from Porter Cable and equally easy to work on. I am now looking to purchase one for personal use and will only get this one. I have used other brands from Craftsman to Hitachi, and this basic router is defiantly a must have in any wood shop.

Although the 690 series is not Porter-Cable’s most powerful router, it is the all-arounder. The variety of bases available, along with the OEM, and third-party accessories for this router make it a must have for a small hand-held. I have a larger table mounted router, but it was recently in the shop for repair, and guess what stepped up to fill the gap? Although 1 3/4 HP wasn’t enough to turn my larger bits, it handled everything else I threw at it. This is one of the best tool investments I’ve ever made (especially considering I got the router, and sander for under $100).
