I received this Trim Router from my wife as a gift. I have not used it yet. However I am impressed by its features and am looking forward to using it.

This laminate trimmer from Porter-Cable is an excellent tool. Loaded with worker friendly features such as easy bit changing, variable speed availability and an on/off switch that does not require both hands. It fits very comfortable within your hand and operates with no vibration. The power cord is very long at 9.5 feet and is made of that nice, flexible type of cord. The cord does not require a grounded outlet. It does not come in a case or bag. It does include a beefy edge guide and collett wrench. The tool is not adaptable to any other size collett other than 1/4″. The LED light is good, but not as bright as I would like.

I love this little router. It’s compact, lightweight, relatively quiet, comfortable to hold, and very easy to control. I don’t understand why they call it a “laminate trimmer”–it’s a full-fledged compact router that seems more than capable of light routing jobs.I have a large 2 1/4 hp router that works well, but that router is large, bulky, heavy, cumbersome to use, time consuming to setup, and is so powerful that it requires two hands on it to keep it under control. While a larger router is necessary for heavier cutting, it is a hassle to use for a simple edge chamfer or roundover. And if the bit catches the wood wrong, that more powerful router jumps off the wood so quickly that it can be very scary. I now use that router in a small router table when I can, but that isn’t always an option for larger pieces. This compact router is wonderful compared to my larger router. It is so convenient to pull out of a drawer, drop in a bit, plugin, and use with one hand that I know I will be reaching for this Porter Cable instead of my other router. It’s very easy to use one handed and is very controllable. I tested the router with three 1/4″ shank bits (spiral upcut, chamfer, and flush trim) and the router was perfectly stable and smooth. As long as you aren’t cutting a lot of material in a single pass, it is more than capable. The spindle lock button works very well and is much easier to use than the lock on my other router. Changing bits is a breeze, but it is a little bit tedious to get the provided wrench into the body of the stand to loosen and tighten the collet.I’m puzzled by the several compact router / laminate trimmer models. From what I can tell, this model is slightly less expensive, perhaps because it has a plastic body instead of aluminum, and only has 1 LED light illuminating the work area. I am gentle with my tools, so the plastic body is fine for my needs and will last forever. As for the LED, since I’ve only used the router outside so far, I actually didn’t see the illumination from the LED and didn’t even know that it had a light. I suppose it will come in handy if I have to use it indoors with limited lighting. This model has the power switch on the top, which I really like. It’s easy to access and much easier to shut off than the small side-mounted rocker switches I see on some of the other routers.Depth adjustment is very fast and easy, using the same rotating ring design used on DeWalt routers. And I really like the quick release latch that locks the motor into the stand. It makes adjustments simple, even when wearing gloves. After dealing with the hassle and inconvenience of my larger router for the last few years, this small model is wonderful. Instead of dreading having to use a router, I’ll now happily reach for this Porter Cable any time.

Really nice tool. Easy bit changes and operation. I like the variable speed control. The on/off switch extends above the housing, so it’s easy to shut down fast.

I have a router in a router table and wanted one for hand held uses etc. I do a lot of picture frames and this is perfect for cutting the rabbets for the picture and glass insert. I made a jig for my workbench that holds the picture frame pieces and allows me to run the router down for one 1/4 by 1/4 pass to cut the rabbet. Quick and easy. The variable speed allows me to work on different wood species without worrying about tear out or chipping. I’ve had it for not quite a year and have had zero problems or issues. Always cut a scrap pieces before using the good stuff to see how things will behave.

This router is excellent, it satisfies my need for my wood projects. It doesn’t get hot that bad that it is difficult to handle. I bought a Makita palm router first, but I have to returned because it gets so hot and it tough to handle.

I have had this for not quite a year and can’t find anything wrong with it. I make a lot of picture frames and built a jig for cutting the rabbet for the back where the picture and glass fit. The jig lets me fit the flat side of the base into it so I only have to measure once. Four sides of the frame take no time at all. Why don’t you have one?

This is a nice little router for job site use and it is probably all the router that most DIYers will ever need. I have a large router with a 1/2″ collet that I was lugging around to jobs to do site work. A couple of years ago I bought a router like this one (another brand) with a 1/4″ collet so that I could try a smaller, lighter tool and it worked so well that the large router stayed in the shop. I got this one to replace the old one because I used it so much I wore it out. The small size makes it much easier to use and all 1/4″ shaft router bits fit into its collet. It is not just a laminate trimmer, it has enough power to shape wood with 1/4″ shaft bits. Very nice tool with all the features you need.
