This chop saw is a replacement for 10 year old Harbor Freight saw which finally blew the motor. When I took the new one out of the box, I saw many similarities to the old one. So, I checked a few things out. First, you can use the same old brushes that the dead saw had. base is the same size, but appears to be of better construction. The clamp is nearly the same, but the anvil and clamp face are much larger, a real plus IMO. When I started it up, that is where I saw (heard) the real difference. The Porter-Cable is MUCH quieter and smother running, and the power curve on starting appears much stronger. So, for the difference in price I would say the Porter-Cable is a better chop saw at a great price.

Built a blacksmith shop and needed a chop saw for the bigger pieces of metal. This saw has done a good job!
