The Porter-Cable RN175C The product is packed in a double wall cardboard box with large staples holding the top closed. The instructional pamphlet has instructions written in English, French, and Spanish. The manufacturer needs to add more side protection for shipping purposes. If the box is jostled abruptly the 1/4″ air nipple can break through the side of the package. See the pictures I have added to the review. The pneumatic nailer weighs 5.3 pounds and is very compact compared to others I have used in the past. This should allow you to work longer without getting the tennis elbow or fore-arm strain that can arise from long term use. It has been more than 30 years since I used a pneumatic roofing nailer and I need to practice more. I bought a box of the 1-¼” electro-galvanized Grip-Rite. Straight out of the box I drove 98 nails and 26 of them were double fire. I seemed to have better luck using the method where you hold the trigger and bump the tip to fire the nail. I also experienced about 6 blank fires but there were no jams. I do like the fact that they have included a rubber strip on the side of the coil drum to help keep the gun from sliding off the roof. All the guns I have used before had metal coil drums so I am not sure how well a plastic drum will last. Although having a plastic drum should be less expensive to replace if it ever breaks. The large knob to adjust the depth is another thoughtful feature. In my opinion this nail gun is a good value product that designed and built for the DIYer or someone that doesn’t want to swing a hammer all day.

Worked well and did the job I needed it for.

We used this to hang individual fence pickets. This made the project moves so much faster then if we have 2 hand nail everything. We had to play around with the pressure to get the nail to set correctly and the gun did jam once but over all it is a great product for the price

This nail gun worked real well on the roof I just did. The adjustments are easy to do, especially the dial to adjust nailing depth. I don’t know if it’s the best nail gun, but it worked well for my project.

I bought 2 I love the way it works but 1 kept misfiring and shot nail to side, with any product they’re will be 1 or 2 that are not to standard, I do highly recommend them for sure tho

I think the tools are of good quality however I was under the impression that it was coming with a case to put the tools in which I did not receive I would give it 5 Stars if the case was included because now I have to find something else to carry them around in

This is the 3rd brand of roofing nailer I have used. The first one I used years ago was a Harbor Freight brand. The second was a Rigid that I rented from Home Depot. For the most part they all operate the same. The Porter Cable is a good weight. The depth adjustment is easy to use and provides consistent depth. The storage compartment for the nail coils is easy to access. I had no issues with mis-fires or double driving nails. You can hold the trigger and tap the nailer on the shingles for fast nailing. There was a air hose fitting included and fit my air hose securely. I used 1-1/4″ nails to secure the shingles to 7/16″ OSB. The only time a nail did not drive full depth is when I hit a rafter under the plywood. The handle fit my hand well and the rubber grip keeps it from slipping. There is also a shingle gauge under the nail magazine, but I did not use that feature. I only used this on a small shed roof, but I bought this because I will be replacing a larger roof on my house in the fall.

It’s ok gun nothing special. But the fact that there’s no belt clip can really create a bad situation

Great roofing gun nailer. I could not be happier with the out of the box usefulness of this nailer.

Works great I didn’t have any problem with it

Used it to shingle a shed roof. First time user no problems. Worked well with pancake compressor. Only drawback was buying the coiled roofing nails. Had to buy a case and that is way way way too many nails for one shed.

in my opinion the porter cable rf175c roofing nailer is as good as any other nailer in this price range and has all the features you need to install a shingle roof. the biggest advantage this nailer has is it’s smaller size for getting into tight places and light weight of 5.34 lbs for easier handling. it has all the features you would want in a nailer such as adjustable nail length, adjustable nail depth, adjustable shingle guide, it’s easy to load and depending on your preference you can shoot 1 nail at a time or use the bump mode for multiple nails in sequence. i used it to install 1 & 1/3 squares of shingles on a small roof over a sliding patio door and it worked flawlessly. it sure beats hand nailing shingles and i am very happy with this nailer.

I purchased this for a roof job on a shed I am building for my daughter and son-in-law, I have always hand nailed roofing but decided maybe I would try this. Like all products there are positive and negatives. Positives – fairly light, grip is comfortable, easy to see how many nails are left, shoots well, no misfires, fairly rugged, easy depth adjustment, and a great price point. This made the job go much quicker than hand nailing and more positive seating of the nails. Negatives – Run out of nails and it keeps going just makes a divot – no auto stop when empty, loading is a bit awkward until you get the hang of it, no single shot option – if you hold the gun to the material and squeeze the trigger the bounce you will cause a double shot so hold the trigger and tap the material is the best way with this unit. Overall I really like it, I had no issues and would recommend it for any handyman (person). For the price you will pay to rent a unit for 3 or so days you can buy this and have it for the next job or rent it to a neighbor. Like any other tool, you need to be careful and know what you are doing at all times, be safe. Highly recommend….. Have fun

HAVE USED THIS GUN FOR OVER 6/7 YEARS ONE OF THE BEST IF NOT THE BEST ON THE MARKET. VERY DEPENDABLE A LITTLE OIL AND ITS LIKE A TIMEX WATCH IT KEEPS ON NAILING.
