I’m doing a basement remodel and purchased this to try to keep the sawdust to a minimum, since I’m doing most cuts in the construction zone. It does a halfway decent job of catching the dust out of the back of the chopsaw although you have to use the dust bag while your vacuum is attached to the dust hood. I may look for a hose splitter so I can use the vacuum on both the saw and dust hood.

Powertec Big Gulp Dust HoodI needed a bench top saw stand that would allow me to use my workbench as an outfeed table and that would also allow me to have a better way to keep table saw dust at a manageable level. I was able to build a simple sturdy stand out of scrap OSB and 2x3s with a hole cut out on the top so that I could seat the Big Gulp into the table. I also needed the stand to be mobile, so I have the saw and stand seated onto a small dollyAs deep as the hood is, I still have plenty of room to attach a shop vac hose and have workable dust collection. I did have to also make a stop into the plumbing supplies aisle to find a PVC reducer to super glue to the bottom so that my shop vac hose would fit as the hood’s 4 inch outlet hole.Overall, the dust hood works well for reducing sawdust accumulation, and makes using the table saw enjoyable.

Overpriced for a hunk of plastic. This is a heads-up for those who intend to hook this up to a Rigid shop-vac with a 2 1/2″ hose: there is no adapter readily available. After ordering this item online, I found nothing close in the local H.D. I then ordered a Powertec model# 70104 reducer based on the online description “Connect 4 in. opening to a 2-1/2 in. hose or a 2-1/2 in. opening to a 4 in. hose” and “Adaptable to shop-vac, sears and a variety of other wet/dry vacuum cleaning”. When this arrived I found that the 4″ side is the same diameter as the ‘big gulp’ and the 2 1/2″ side is the same diameter as the shop vac. One does not fit inside the other. I wound up buying 2″ and 4″ No Hub Couplings which I found in the PVC aisle. They worked Ok after trimming the rubber sleeves.Had I looked more closely at the specs of these items online I would have seen that they were not going to fit together, but I think Powertec should make an adapter that fits such a common application, and Home Depot should offer it.

Using on Table Saw along with Shop Vacuum for dust control. Placed under table saw but had to duct tape it in place.

I turn wood and I bought the Big Gulp Dust Hood to reduce the sawdust and chips littering my garage. I have a 1.5hp Jet dust collector and connected it to the hood with a 4″ hose. The hood catches virtually all sawdust from sanding. Depending on my chisel choice, angle of approach, and what I am turning, it catches anywhere from 50% to 95% of shavings. It amplifies the sound of the dust collector, which is the only trade off I can identify. In sum, if your goal is reducing the mess from wood working, especially turning, this is a worthwhile purchase.

It didn’t grab as much dust when mixing bedding mud as I had hoped.

The large mouth catches most all of the extraneous particulate that manage to elude a typical shop vac hooked up to a scroll saw, belt sander or miter saw. I bought three and have them gated to my dust collector depending on which tool I’m using. Couldn’t be happier!

I attached the to the underside of my tablesaw. Three sides of the hood had narrow lips which made it more difficult to attach with screws.

Could not afford to get one of those “hoods” for my miter saw. Built a frame for it and set it up behind the saw. With its wide mouth it catches most of the saw dust. I also use it at the end of my workbench to catch stuff when I clean my bench or sweep it off. Very versatile.

I attached the dust collector to my shop vac and set it near the edge of my workbench, beneath work pieces when sawing, jigsawing, filing and sanding. It catches most of the mess and makes cleanup faster and easier.

I had to make a wooden flange for the top of the dust hood to attach to my table saw, which I expected. It would be nice if there was an adapter for the bottom to attach to my shopvac. I had to make an adapter out of PVC pipe.

It was not the right size but I made work.

Product as advertised. Would be better if it were a couple inches bigger in each dimension, but I knew as is that it would suffice for my needs.

This does not fit all saws as a drop in. It is smaller than my Craftsman so I have add a modified lip underneath to make it fit. Like the design though with the drop in the back.

I modified this dust hood to provide ducting to the oil cooler on my son’s drift car. Easy to cut & shape. Can be glued with standard ABS cement.
