Works well, though I don’t understand why the gate needed that section that pushes out the other end. I wish this were designed like their 2.5in model where there is just a door that is either closed or open. This extra part protruding out makes it tougher to manipulate given I have 3 hoses on the ground and this often requires repositioning to move the gate. I might end up just getting another 2.5 inch gate to put the gate at the tool end instead of inline in the hoses – partially to avoid having to bend over so much. Anyway, it works.

the only way this can be attached to a machine is with a separate collar and pair of hose clamps. The device certainly works but installing it anyplace but inline on a duct is a nuisance.

A decent blast gate valve; through, plate is made from thin pre-plate galvanized steel so edges will rust a bit over time. The lock knob also came cranked down hard in the closed position which makes it easy for the extending section to get bent during shipping, and the knob was so tight I had to use pliers to unlock it. It should have been shipped in the open position because that exposed gate section is more bend-resistant. But, price at HD is far better than McMaster-Carr or the other online hardware retailers. 4in diameter is the outside dimension because it’s meant to function as a female in-line connection for 4in duct work.

Unit was easy to install and mounted easily into my 4 inch drain pipe that is my vacuum system. Only drawback is the door/gate is very thin and bends easily if bumped.

I recently installed this blast gate on my portable dust collector as a soft-start device. Startup with the gate closed lets the bags fill quickly without popping open. Instead of using clamps, I drilled and tapped both male flanges for 8-32 screws to secure it to female fittings. Packaging was inadequate to protect the slide gate during shipment. The slide arrived bent where there is little metal by the 4″ opening. The slide was easily flattened but to prevent future damage I plan to keep the slide gate open when not in use.

Same problem I have with most dust collection hoses and accessories, they never fit for what I need them for. I just bought a nice 2 hp dust collector and I was hoping this blast gate would fit on the 4″ outlet that the hoses attach. Well, it doesn’t fit. It does fit onto the end of the hose. I sure wish the descriptions would say if the 4 in is an O.D or I.D
