Compared to using a sharp utility knife that would dull on a single cut, this literally makes the job 100 times easier. The carbide tips haven’t lost any bite after a hundred or so cuts so far. The longer handle allows for a lot more force than I got with the Utility Knife. About five swipes along a clamped Straight Edge and Ive been getting a pretty clean-cut.

The first time i did a floor i didnt know this existed. I burned out several blade making minimal cuts to my cement board. The second and third floors I’ve are a different story. To make straight simple cuts, scoring with this will allow you to just break off your cut. For more complex cuts, the scoring gives a great groove for my sawzall to glide along. I rated it a 4 because after some heavy use. The plastic handle loosens a little.

It works as good as can be expected cutting thru cement board. It sure beats a utility knife. You do have to score it 8 or 10 times then maybe clean up the edges a little with the side of the knife. Overall I would have hated to cut the backer board without it.

This little knife does the job. We cut enough backer board with it to do a job in a basement bathroom, and it still cuts. It does take some effort to use, but it does work. You will have to make several passes. A utility knife simply will not do the job. Blades on a utility knife will dull immediately and will not cut backer board. The only thing a utility knife will do is cut the remaining mesh, but again, it will dull the blade.

VERY easy to use. I found that after multiple boards the handle became loose. Easy fix. Just tighten the screws. After cutting about 15 times tip is still as sharp as when I bought it.

I bought this to score lines on Hardie board and it’s worked great on the first three long cuts. You’ll want to score the line 3-4 times but after that the board will snap easily. If the carbide tip holds up for the next 50-60 cuts I will change rating to 5 stars. Very happy so far.
