Install two M.2 2280 SSDs within a single 2.5″ drive bay using the M.2 2280 to 2.5″ SATA Drive Adapter from QNAP. Compatible with the SATA III 6 Gb/s standard, this adapter does not require any software or drivers and may be used with Windows 7 and later, Windows Server 2012 R2 and later, Linux, and QNAP NAS devices running QTS 4.4.1 and later. Also supported is RAID 0, which stripes both drives together for performance gains, but provides no data redundancy, and RAID 1, which uses one drive to create a 1:1 mirror of the other. If you don’t need a RAID, this adapter also supports JBOD and individual configurations.
This adapter is not compatible with QNAP’s TR-002/TR-004. Also, pleasure ensure your system’s SATA ports support 12V output.

All configurations on the TS-873A I was unable to get this drive adapter working and recognized. Hopefully this saves someone else hours of time.

One thing you must understand . . . this ONLY works with SATA m.2 SSDs. So you can’t get the speed of the latest Gen 4 or even Gen 3 versions. Watch what key you buy and get two exact matching SATA SSDs. With these you can get a theoretically twice (~1050/MBs) the single units speed when put in a RAID 0. Short of mounting the NVMe’s on a PCI board it may be your best bet. So getting two 2tb SSD, in a RAID 0, will give you a fairly quick 4tb drive – certainly faster than buying a regular internal SSD. Case is solid and several sets of ventilation holes on both sides for cooling so heat should not be an issue. We have bought several and only negative issue was the cover screws. One was in so tight ended up stripping it, had to return and the next was fine.
