Optimize your network to better support high-speed remote VPN configurations for enhanced remote work performance with the QHora-301W AX3600 Wireless Dual-Band 10Gb / Gigabit SD-WAN Router from QNAP. In addition to having two 10GbE WAN/LAN ports, four Gigabit Ethernet ports, and support for 802.11ax Wi-Fi, the QHora-301W allows you to take advantage of QNAP’s Software-Defined Wide Area Network (SD-WAN) technology, QuWAN, to establish a secure mesh VPN with devices at multiple sites. With SD-WAN, you can efficiently expand remote working and distributed workforce operations without having to use additional enterprise-grade VPN equipment. It uses software-defined networking to automatically deploy connected WAN services and VPN sites to achieve optimal network bandwidth and transmission speeds, thereby overcoming the bandwidth bottlenecks that can occur with a traditional headquarters-centered network infrastructure.

First the pros: I love the non-robot-spider-nightmare design! I love the silent, fanless internals. The UI is also really slick-looking. Now the Cons: Still no 160MHz mode in North America: despite 3 firmware updates in 2 months, there is still no support for 160MHz. Despite the release notes saying there is support. The biggest con is: NO JUMBO FRAME (MTU = 9000) support There is no way to change the MTU on the 10gbe ports. I assumed this device would support Jumbo Frames as they are necessary to utilize the full bandwidth of 10gbe. I painfully realized this device does not, through trial-and-error. When I enable Jumbo Frames on my Synology NAS (1621xs+), I completely lost the connection to the NAS. I tried two different 10gbe adaptors for my Macbook (both with jumbo frames enabled) and couldn’t figure out what was going on. I thought the NAS had crashed. I had to reinstalled the OS (or so I thought, see below) After weeks of troubleshooting, I then connected to a 1gbe port instead of the 10gbe port on the NAS and was able to connect! I then direct-connected to the NAS, bypassing this router. And I was able to connect to the NAS, AND I was getting much faster speeds over 10gbe. (I was finally maxing out the connection over RAID 5, something I was never able to do over the router) With this router I get: 211 MB/s write; 735 MB/s read (MTU =1500, i.e. no jumbo frames) Direct-connected to the NAS with MTU =1500 (i.e. no jumbo frames) I get: 232 MB/s write; 762 MB/s read Direct connected to the NAS with MTU = 9000 (i.e. jumbo frame enabled) I get: 238 MB/s write, 997 MB/s read I filed a support ticket through QNAP and they have said they can’t refund me and that they can’t swap out my router for a switch that supports jumbo frames. My return window has now closed, so I am stuck with either using this router that bottlenecks my NAS…or using an awkward setup where only one computer can direct-connect to the NAS over 10gbe. I thought a WiFi 6 router with 10gbe x2 at this price seemed to be too good to be true, sadly it seems I was right. Hopefully this saves others some pain!

I am VERY disappointed in QNAP, and their inability to provide ANY customer service. Out of the box, this item was never able to perform the basic function of ‘port forwarding’. It also was unable to make a ‘system backup’ without error. The product ‘might have’ been okay, but since I let it automatically update the firmware, I will never know. I’m just glad that B&H has such good customer support. Item RETURNED …
