Built with 2.5GbE connectivity, a quad-core processor, AES-NI hardware encryption engine, 4K HDMI output, and real-time transcoding, the TS-453D 4-Bay NAS Enclosure from QNAP not only provides users with a solution to upgrade to 2.5GbE environments for productive daily backup and restore tasks, but also offers gamers resources for the vast gaming collections. The TS-435D also supports PCIe expansion with a PCIe 2.0 x2 slot, which can be fitted with a 10 Gb/s USB 3.2 Gen 2 port, an M.2 SSD for SSD cache acceleration, a 5GbE port, or a 10GbE port. Built with four drive bays that are capable of natively supporting 3.5″ SATA III and SATA II hard drives, as well as 2.5″ SATA hard drives and SSDs, this NAS will allow you to store and share many files, as it allows 800 maximum concurrent connections.
The TS-453D runs on the QTS 4.4.2 operating system. Its CPU is a 2.0 GHz Intel Celeron J4125 Quad-Core and its 8GB of DDR4 RAM allows frequently used files and applications to be quickly accessed. When connected using one 2.5GbE port, this NAS can deliver download speeds of up to 295 MB/s and upload speeds of 289 MB/s. With both 2.5GbE ports in use, download speeds increase to 590 MB/s and upload speeds are boosted to 535 MB/s. When using an optional 10GbE card, download speeds max out at 686 MB/s, while upload speeds reach 397 MB/s.
Also featured are two USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports and three USB 2.0 Type-A ports which allow it to be connected to your compatible Windows or Mac system, and network connectivity is achieved via the two 2.5 Gigabit Ethernet ports, allowing your stored data to be shared with users throughout the network. For those who require RAID support, the TS-453D supports RAID 0, 1, 5, 6, and 10, as well Synology Hybrid RAID and Basic RAID, each of which offers performance, data redundancy, or a combination of both. For those who do not require a RAID, JBOD and single are also available.
The TS-453D is engineered to be energy efficient. Not only does it offer a 120mm fan to help keep the system running cool, it supports numerous scheduled power on/off cycles and hard drive hibernation to further reduce power consumption and operation expenses.
The QNAP TS-453D 4-Bay NAS Enclosure operates on 100-240 VAC and includes two Ethernet cables, a power cord, an AC adapter, flat head screws for 3.5″ drives, and flat head screws for 2.5″ drives. Protection is provided by a limited 3-year hardware warranty.

This is my second NAS, my TS-453Pro conked out recently and B&H’s sale price and very reasonable overnight shipping had me up and running within 24 hours of the order! I do miss the LCD/LED display panel from my 453Pro but I see now that only the more expensive QNAP NAS models have it. The NAS is zippy and looks good. All that being said, QNAP support gets 1 star for the 1 hour waits, disconnects, no call backs when leaving a message. I am surprised how this company continues to grow with such bad, non-responsive technical support. I gave up after 4 tries, 3 hours of being on hold (usually an hour each call) and call drops (is that intentional I wondered?).

This is a very nice and capable NAS. I configured it as RAID 5. I use it for all my important documents, family pictures and videos. I also use it as a PLEX server and web server.

This is my second qNap, after the first one died for unknown reasons and could not be repaired. The NAS has its own OS builtin and accessed through a webpage, Setup is not the easiest thing and erquired two call to qNap technical support. Fortunately they are readily available and connected to my PC through Teamviewer and did all the work in 2 minutes. Happy now. I hope this one lasts for ever. FG.

As an I.T. consultant, I serve 10 small business and all of them are using QNAP NAS as their primary Cloud, Storage, and media server. It is very easy to start with. You only need a a essential network and linux operation skill to initialize a QNAP NAS. It is very stable and secure (Of course, you need to maintain and update it just like you treat your car). QNAP NAS also includes pretty everything a small business needs such as backup server, media server, Mac OS time machine, email server, ftp, and web server, VPN server, Virtual server and Internal Storage and Internet Cloud server.

My 5 year old QNAP NAS TS-453 Pro failed on me so ordered this QNAP TS-453D as a replacement. Happened to catch it during a significant sale. I was able to just swap the drives from the old NAS to the new and was up and running in minutes without further issues. Not pleased that my original NAS failed due to a known Intel bug with the Celeron J1900 processor clock which I have since fixed. The new NAS uses a higher level processor not impacted with this issue. I do anticipate getting another 5 years or more of trouble free service from my new NAS. As usual, processing and delivery from B&H Photo was as promised.

I needed to expand my storage as I got tired of living on external drives. It’s been great as it covers my family’s data as well as my own personal projects. And the ability of an expansion PCIe slot sold me right away. Highly recommended if you’re looking to expand your home storage, start a homelab or use a Plex server.

This is a great NAS, especially after I added 16 GB RAM to the existing 4 GB for a total of 20 GB RAM. I used this NAS not oly for storing my files, but also as a Plex server.
