Pros, Great positive stops for miters, love the cutting platform and over all appearance.Con, I don’t know why every pair that I use has such a short handle that doesn’t provide the leverage needed to cut more dense trim like oak. Maybe even a ratcheting cutter. I’m defiantly not an engineer. I would pay more for a better cutter. Price was also a pro.

This quarter round cutter is ok for small jobs But not for production jobs because on every single cut need to move the degree liner and take extra time

There are numerous trim cutters on the market, including this Ridgid mid-range model. I’m using it to cut wood-grained vinyl wrapped plastic quarter round for the floor to wall transition in the house. Installation is much quicker than using a miter saw. There are a couple of performance limitations to be aware of if you want to avoid frustration with the tool. The first is easily sidestepped – when buying the cutter, buy a set of replacement blades to avoid experiencing wandering, rough cuts as the original blade grows dull. The second is a limitation that Ridgid could have easily anticipated – the maximum quarter round capacity of the cutter is exactly 5/8-in x 5/8-in. Anything thicker – meaning 5/8-in pre-painted quarter round or the wood-grained vinyl wrapped plastic quarter round – is a fraction of an inch too thick to fit against the miter fence with the cutter jaws fully opened. If you are willing to accept the capacity limitation then this cutter is a time-saving tool.

I had a similar tool for years. it was made a little janky but I couldn’t find anything else like it that was made from a decent brand. a buddy of mine had one of these and mine had just bit the dust. I noticed it was built very well compared to my old one. The blade was sharp which cut through trim like a boss and fence guide is very helpful. So I got me one and now getting a backup. I’m a contractor and this tool is a must have for running small trim.

I am a professional trim carpenter. These do well, house after house. If you’re a professional these won’t do you wrong.

This is NOT a tool for framing fine art. Rather, it is a simple, straightforward yet very effective way to cut small strips of wood or quarter-round molding at set angles, i.e. 90, 45, or 22.5 degrees. The tool itself is well constructed and very sturdy with non-slip grips on the handles. The guide has positive click stops at each angle, swung left or right, the blade is VERY sharp and the jaws are VERY powerful. You will want to keep it away from children and exercise caution whenever you are using it.I took a 6-inch scrap of 1/4″ thick poplar hobby board and quickly ripped off four 3/8″ wide strips with my band saw. Then, using the 45 degree setting, proceeded to cut four pieces of equal length so as to create a square frame. Not a perfect fit as I would need to trim barely a scoche off of the back side of each piece with an x-acto knife or a few rubs of 400 grit paper but the accuracy of the angle cut itself is spot on.I purchased this hand tool primarily for use in making simple, somewhat rustic frames out of wood scraps for the small wood decorative plaques I make through kolrosing, relief carving and pyrography. Even with a small bit of sanding or razor trimming on the back side, this one hand tool will save me countless hours of finger-numbing miter cutting – and the inevitable miscuts – with my small aluminum hobby miter box and saw. And because of the way it’s sold, I have a spare blade as well. It’s yet another terrific quality, time-saving hand tool from Ridgid.

Makes a difficult job very easy. Turned a several hour job of miter box cutting 1/4 round after a flooring job into about one hour. The only minor flaw was a bit of side to side movement of the blade which made cleanly trimming off a small bit from a slightly too long piece pretty much impossible. I’ve tightened the nut holding the blade, but have yet to see if this fixed the problem.

It served its purpose and cut somewhat easy through pine 3/4 round trim. It took me a few practice cuts to make sure I had the hang of it but after that it worked well, for what it is anyway.

Works nice for vinyl shoe moulding. Easy to cut vinyl but a bit harder on wood. Would be nice if the opening was a bit larger to accept some larger moulding.

This tool does a great job with simple corner cuts to quarter round. Saved me time.
