I recently purchased a pair of Ridgid Miter Trim Cutters to install shoemold in a 4 bedroom 3 bathroom house with hardwoods and tile floors. This pair of cutters worked well. They were a bit stiff to cut with initially, and that may be because they were brand new. I almost felt like they became much easier to use as I was cutting the very last pieces. I actually painted all of my shoemold first before cutting and installing it. These cutters didnt damage the paint. The fence on these cutters definitely takes a lot of the guess work out of making cuts. If you have experience with installing trim, then you know that avoiding miscuts can save you tons of time and money in materials. There were sometimes when it looked like the cutters would cut halfway through the shoemold, and then they would begin pinching the wood more than they were cutting through it. This left the bottom side of some of the pieces of shoemold squashed and/or cracked. This issue did require me to recut some pieces. This could have been a result of the blade getting dull. But I wouldn’t think that one trim job would be enough to dull the blade. However, this problem seemed to have pretty much corrected itself by the time I was finished. I have used other brands of miter cutters, and I can say that this pair makes it very easy to position the trim in the exact position that you want without slipping or moving.Overall, these cutters got the job done. They made a lot less dust and were much easier to carry around than using a miter saw.
