A quality product for the price point. I am pleased with the early performance of the planer. Knives have held up, even with running some knotty white oak. Make sure you test it on scrap lumber to ensure even depth of cut across the width of the lumber. Also, place a level from the intake table through the unit and across the output table to ensure the unit is level with the two tables. Adjust as necessary to minimize snipe. It is quite loud unit, but hearing protection is a must with any power tool.

GREAT PLANER.

It took a couple years for me to decide to buy such an expensive tool. But WOW! It makes a HUGE difference in my shop! I work with pallet wood a lot and this tool is a must if you want smooth surfaces. It could take 20-30 minutes to sand a pallet apart, now just a couple passes with this planer and I don’t even have to sand. But if you use pallet wood like me be absolutely certain that there are no pieces of metal on the wood before sending it through the planer!!

Ridgid is a great brand and I really enjoy my new planer. I have used it only twice and one of the blades already has a NIC in it that shows on the board. I wasn’t planing anything particularly hard, no nails or stones, not even what I would call hard knots in the wood. PaciThis leads me to believe that the blades may be a little better built. Other than that, great tool.

The only complaint I have about it is the original blades didnt last long at all. The replacements seem to be holding up though

My first project that I used this for is with cherry wood. VERY hard wood to work with and this planer just ripped right through it without and issue.

i purchased this unit to avoid a frequent need to haul and pay a local lumber company to plane boards for me. while unboxing the unit a plastic trim piece on the top of the unit cracked off and couldn’t be reattached. i continued and set the unit up to work. i planed roughly 1/16th inch off of three 8 inch yellow pine boards and the motor stopped in the middle of the third. dead. no overload, no nothing. i waited for roughly a half hour thinking it was overheated or something. it was not, it was dead. less than thirty minutes of use on a new planer is pretty poor. otherwise the unit seems well made – perhaps a more robust or stronger motor would make it better.

Set up from the factory was right on the money. Checked the accuracy with a caliper and was spot on. Will handle planing hardwood with ease. Great machine.

The limited number of passes that I’ve so far done with this planer indicate to me that it’s a solid piece of machinery. No set-up required out of the box and blade to table alignment was spot on with next to no sniping of the finished work. I had my doubts about portable planers given past experience with only larger stationary models, though this tool put my concerns to rest. Four stars because the online retail site indicated one unit in stock at another store that was outside of my city. Upon arrival it became obvious to me, given the bashed up box and missing manual, that they were selling a floor model. It wasn’t until I got it home that I noticed that the lockout key was missing as well. Some calling around and another out of town trip to a Ridgid service shop and I was able to get the required key… not cool. If I’m paying for new then that’s what I expect – complete contents as well.

Get product, used for about 4 projects now. No snipe so far, I did accidently run a board with a brad nail buried in it on the second project, had to spin the blades around. Very easy to do once you read the directions. Very impressed with this product at this price point. A few negatives the shelves weren’t level out of the box, probably normal, but they are a pain to try to level. The dust collection systems worked pretty well on smaller items 4 to 6 inches but when you get to the 12.5 to 13 inch it does seem to get clogged up, I ran some scrap ply wood through to see how it would do, maybe 3 board feet, and it clogged up by the 2nd foot. But very easy to clean out, once you read the instructions anyway. Over all very good product and I would recommend for beginners and intermediates alike. Plus HD has military discount and Rigid comes with life time warranty so no need to spend the extra $75-$100 more for a warranty like the other manufactures make you do.
