RIDGID introduces the 18-Volt Cordless Drywall Cut-Out Tool with 1.5 Ah Lithium-Ion Battery. With a no load speed of 28,000 RPM, the Drywall Cut-Out Tool provides a fast, clean cut in a compact size. The depth guide drops below the collet for maximum depth of cut with the guide attached. The depth guide also functions as the collet wrench, making bit changes quick and convenient. The point-of-cut switch allows for total control of the tool when cutting. The ability to cut drywall, plywood, cement board and laminate adds versatility. We had been toying with the idea of using a dremel attachment to cut out holes in our sheetrock as we were hanging it and really glad we spent the money on this tool body. We already have a small collection of Rigid tools, so we didn’t need to buy a battery and saved some money there. This cut-out tool worked perfectly to cut out outlets, can lights, furnace openings. Being able to set the appropriate depth was useful and allowed us to get a better cut through 5/8 and 1/2 inch sheetrock. A few things that we found that worked well: 1. we cut out the inside dimensions of a box or opening by running the tool along the inside edge, then took the tool and ran it around the outside so the sheetrock dropped into place and was a tight fit. It took a little more time, but we didn’t have as many “bounces” were the tool cut sheetrock it didn’t need to.2. get extra bits and change them, more often than you think you need to. We ended up using 8 bits for a standard basement sheetrock job with 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom, and living room, and all the can lights. A new bit went a long way in making things go smoothly.

Compact tool provides a neatish cut as promised but I found that two hands are necessary to achieve that. The tool can be operated with one hand but the outcome is not nearly as neat.Cleverly the wrench to unlock and lock the collet nut is a part of the depth gauge. Setting up and adjusting the tool to suit the work is easy enough and there are both quarter inch and eighth inch collects included together with two eighth inch drywall bits. The LED light is very useful on this tool, providing the right amount of illumination in the right place. The depth gauge does mark the drywall if it is resting on the material during cutting. I’m not sure that it is any neater of faster than my usual method of drilling a hole and cutting out the drywall with a padsaw but it definitely needs less muscle power and with a lot of holes to be cut in drywall and a limited number of other materials this tool will prove its worth.

This was something new to me. My wife is remodeling a shed into a craft/office space for her business and she’s going to have to put up drywall soon and I saw this nifty tool and remembered just how much trouble me and my father in law had putting up drywall in my kitchen years ago. We just couldn’t get the cutouts right for the outlets with a handsaw or razor blade. My wife turned this tool on and she was very impressed with how much power this tool has behind it and it will definetly be more precise because of it. Its alot faster than a normal drill as well with the rpms it has. I think anyone that does drywall needs this in their life. Its lightweight as well.

I had always wanted one of these tools cut out electrical boxes. I opted to try this one and after a little practice got better with it. I had always cut my boxes out with a saw before hanging the rock. This tool cut the time by 5 or 6 times. It was very fast and efficient. There is however a learning curve as can be seen in my photos. This tool is well worth the expense if you do a lot of drywall work. The only negatives I had were: 1. there is no battery or charger included(you must purchase another tool, which is cheaper than buying a battery and charger separately) or buy the battery and charger. 2. the tool did not come with a wrench to tighten the bit.

Another great tool from Ridgid, very easy to use and setup. The tool can be as accurate as you are steady. I myself find the tool easier to control in the up right position. However practice makes perfect. I now have nine Ridgid tools and I’m very happy with all of them. This tool makes working with dry wall much easier. This tool is very compact and easy to store in any tool box.

The batteries are lifetime warranty, some reviews say that they don’t but the warranty that I received Does say lifetime warranty on the batteries. I went to the HD in my area and the sales rep from Ridged was there and he also mentioned that the batteries do come with lifetime warranties.
