RIDGID….18 volt octane Cordless Brushless 31/4″Hand Planer I purchased this planer as a (Tool Only) Since I already had a couple of 6Ah Batteries on hand. Well this planer is going to take some getting use to. It is light weight, compact, powerful and is very easy to operate with some practice. It can be adjusted from 1/64th to 5/64 for Planing and from 1/32 to 5/32 to chamfer an edge and the Kickstand is a cool feature it pivots automatically when you set the planer down. I don’t think I would be using this planer daily but when I do need it it will come in very handy This is a well engineered tool and works with any Ridgid 18 volt battery

this planer has quite a bit of power and is very adjustable and accurate. i especially love the ability to put the dust collection bag or hose on either side of the tool when walking it along a long piece. the dust collection is impressive with only the bag, but with a vacuum attached is virtually dust free. I also like the retractable kickstand that allows me to set the tool down on my work piece without the blades touching the wood. you can use it with a regular 18 volt Ridgid battery, but when used with the octane battery the difference is noticeable, especially in terms of battery life.

Exceeded expectations. This little planer is lightweight and powerful. I am surprised by how precise this is and how easily it removes even old hard wood. Have used it multiple times on doors for trimming and it saves so much time and effort. Easy to maneuver and I love having no cord. This is a great addition to the 18V Octane line.

I bought this for shaving the edges of doors. I had a whole house of 100 year old solid wood doors warped from age and water damage to refit. I used a 6Ah octane battery to make sure it had plenty of power, and it totally did. Each door took only a matter of minutes to shave down and slide back into the jam. Not having to deal with finding outlets and stringing along cords made for quick and easy work going from room to room. Super happy with this planer. It does throw shavings everywhere, but that was to be expected. Having the bag movable from side to side also came in handy, nice feature.

This is the best cordless planer ever. Its full if great ideas, the design team in on top of their game. The octane power is amazing and not the first or last octane tool I will have. First the handle is extremely comfortable and the controls are right where they are needed and the Reversible dust bag with switch to left or right is extreamly nice and helps with the clean up and the fact it has not only a Easy to change belt the blades are also presharpened on both sides so if you are on a job and need sharpened blades just remove them and turn them around. Also they appear to be the same blade as other ridgid planer so replacement should be easy to find and the adjustment is from 0″ to 1/8″. And the Easy to replace belt with a nice window to see the belt for inspection so you don’t get in the middle of a job and have the belt break this allows you to have a tool on the job that will not be out of service when you need it. It also has a Nice adjustable edge guide can be flipped over for storage and a nice guide on the bottom for chamfering corners. And to protect the blade it had a automatic kick stand to help prevent blade damage. The On board hex key storage (pretty much the hex key does it all) keeps the most needed tool for repair and adjustment close at hand. This is a must have tool.

Planer works great. Bag fills up very quickly, so lots of emptying (as I was warned and expected). Also, when planing, have to make sure you don’t twist the front knob and accidentally change the plane depth.

I’ve picked up this planer a few weeks ago after my DeWalt planer’s motor crapped out shortly after the warranty period expired. I have been switching my cordless tool line from DeWalt to Rigid because I believe DeWalt is slipping behind the advances that Rigid is making and striving for. The warranty and batteries for life is hard to pass up when going with the Rigid line. I’m a cabinet professional and push my tools to the max everyday. Rigid holds up the best and I never have to worry about parts, service, or batteries.This planer is a workhorse in my shop with a wide variety of uses. The dust bag is key and I like the ability to switch sides for discharge when I’m up against an obstacle. Easy depth adjustment and lightweight with plenty of power.

I would give it 5 stars, but it does over heat. I had to stop several times to let it cool down, bu tI was doing a big job. I was in a shaded garage in about 80 degree weather. It does suck down the batteries, but that is to be expected.

I had the milwaukee fuel one and this one blows it out of the water. It’s bigger, heavier, and more powerful. I think you’ll be shocked at the power. The extra weight is a pro in my opinion because it helps keep the tool flat and stable on the surface. Highly recommend the 9ah battery. You see a big difference in run time than with a 4ah.
