RIDGID introduces the 18-Volt OCTANE Cordless Brushless 3-Speed 1/4 Sheet Sander Kit with (1) OCTANE Bluetooth 3.0 Ah Battery and Charger. Pair with an OCTANE battery for up to 14,000 RPM to clear material with speed. Engineered at optimal levels, easily change between high, medium, and slow speed settings with a digital selector. AIRGUARD Technology allows for up to 90% of dust collection as well. An added front grip guard will protect your fingers from sliding down and touching the base of the sanding pad for a more comfortable experience and optimal control. OCTANE tools utilize high performance brushless motors for increased performance. State of the art OCTANE electronics are built to handle maximum power from OCTANE batteries. The battery in this kit offers 2X more runtime when compared to standard 1.5 Ah lithium-ion. With Bluetooth Technology, the jobsite is opened up to many features that will increase productivity throughout the work day. While providing increased performance with all RIDGID 18-Volt tools, OCTANE batteries provide maximum performance when paired with OCTANE tools for high demand applications. The 18-Volt Charger is compatible with all RIDGID Batteries. One of my batteries that came with my drill that I purchased in 2014 died so I needed a replacement. This one has much longer better life than the older model. I will probably never use the Bluetooth feature and the App for my iPhone so I can monitor the battery like on my phone. Who does that?

Basically I love the sander. I agree, that the ergonomics of the on / off, and speed control are a bit awkward. Biggest problem for me however is that within the 1st 10 minutes of use, the dust collector fell off. I continued to use it and it happened two more time. Choice was to return it or kludge a fix. I chose the latter, by putting a piece of cloth around the neck so as to tighten the connection.

I bought this sander to replace an old Dewalt corded sander. It is a bit heavy to use compared to a corded model but the freedom of cordless is well worth it. Keep a couple of charged batteries on hand because it will go through batteries quickly. Ridgid’s lifetime service agreement is a plus!

I am sure this would be the best sander in the industry if someone could actually buy it. I have been looking for this since my tools were stolen in august 2018 and now I finally find this amazing looking sander but it is unavailable ?!/? not sure why I never saw it before? I have been trying to get a complete set of everything Ridgid I would say Ridgid tools are the best tools as long as you are able to buy them. but unlike other brands Ridgid seems to make amazing tools then discontinue them.. then their customers have their tools stolen from them as they become collectors items…Like their 18v 7 1/4 Dual bevel compound sliding mitre saw. nobody has made a saw as light weight as the ridgid with complete work ability as Ridgid was able to do.

This is the perfect sander to have on the workbench or to take with you to the jobsite. I am a cabinet maker professional and have had many other tradesman ask to try it out when I’m out in the field. I didn’t think that I ever use the low setting on the variable speed adjustment, but I actually use it more often than that high speed. The low speed is perfect for evening out wood filler and knocking of sharp corners on softwood such as Poplar or Pine. My painter liked the low speed and used it after he applied the prime coat on cabinets to get that smooth finish with little vibration. The low speed really extends the battery life as well. I’ve also noticed that my hand doesn’t go numb when using this sander. In the past, when I used corded models with only one speed my hand would go numb from the excessive vibration and prolonged use. This sander is so well balanced and easy to control that my hand and arm never went numb nor did I have to switch hands like I did in the past with other sanders. I’ve been using this sander for about 3 weeks now and it has really helped increase my production with a quality finish. Another great product from Rigid that I’ve added to my changeover from Dewalt to the Rigid tool line in my shop.
