We needed to drill 8 holes through very hard porcelain tile to install a grab bar. We knew the tile was very hard as our tile installer had to use more than twice the number of tile saw blades as he normally would while installing it, and he commented repeatedly at how long it took to make each cut.The guide really was a help in keeping the drill bit on target. Our tile has a linen texture to it, so I was concerned about how well the adhesive pads would stick. The first one popped off, but after we discovered that it was because the drill angle was tweaking the guide, that stopped. We were able to use each pad for two holes on average. I found that if you removed the pad and turned it over, the pad would restick to the tile for use on another hole. Towel dry the pad with a lint free towel before resticking. The reservoir worked well to keep the bit cool, but required refilling many times during a single hole drilling. My husband drilled and I kept the reservoir filled allowing nonstop drilling. The water exiting the hole only warmed to lukewarm but the bit never heated up. The first bit was only good for 4 holes as the drill time increased significantly from the first to the fourth hole. The second bit still has a bit of life left in it after 4 holes. Overall, we would use this setup again in a heartbeat. We got 8 clean straight holes. For our application, we had to use this bit to get through the 3/8″ porcelain, then switched to a masonry bit to get through the 7/8″ of mortar and to a wood bit for the last 1/4″ of wood when we hit wood to make a 1-1/2″ hole for the lead anchors.

The drill set worked perfectly. Was able to achieve very precise hole placement and bit went through porcelain tile very easily. Would highly recommend.

This set helped to drill seven 5/16″ holes through 3/8″ porcelain tile. The drill bit worked well, only dulling a little bit on the last couple of holes. The plastic bit guide was also helpful, but the double-stick pads didn’t really help much. Also, the small, plastic water reservoir was more trouble than help. It leaked water constantly, and I finally gave up and just kept a small garden waterer handy to pour water on the bit. By the last few holes, I had actually resorted to just angling the drill bit to break the porcelain surface, and then slowly moving the drill bit to a 90 degree angle – and, didn’t even use or need the set’s guide.
