Overall this is a pretty handy tool. It makes boring for a latch set on a wooden door easy, fast, and accurate. As far as boring for the latch set .assembly, this is pretty straightforward. The included adapter makes it very easy to adapt to both common backset sizes simply by reversing the position of the included adapter. Boring for the latch, however, is a little more tricky and the reason I give this product key four star rating rather than a five. It comes only with a 1 inch spade bit and a guide to make it work in the tool. The problem with this setup is that if the door is not laying on edge with you drilling down, the guide will walk out of the tool making it useless. I would rather see a 1-inch hole saw included with this that would use the same mandrel as the 2 1/8” in latch set hole saw.

It was easy to use and made our job move along faster. For a female contractor we need tools that fit our hands and are easy to maneuver and this did it for me

The door lock kit is average. Jig is flimsy and with a few reinforcements could be much better. Got the job done.

All the necessary tools to make a door hole was there. Only thing that bothers me is the guide didn’t have some sort of locking mechanism to latch onto the door itself for doors that have holes already and you just need to make it bigger. Instead you have to hold it with your own hand and weight against it to which will start to rattle and go off mark. I may be doing it wrong but it should be a little bit easier for new users. Also the hole saw will not saw through the door quick. It will take time to get through.Although at this price point it is acceptable enough for the job.

Got this, and it worked great.. for the most part.. the door handle guide put fell out and I out it back in the wrong place. That causes a gap in the door handle.. so.. great product, watch what you are doing!!

I had several doors in my basement that I replaced because of flooding. The door lock installation kit came well after I started the work, but I decided to replace a pull handle with a locking knob because that’s where I keep some expensive tools. The kit would have benefited from metal construction because the plastic seems flimsy. But my main complaint is with the printed instructions – there were too few pics to demonstrate the written instruction. In my opinion, there should be one pic per instruction so I wouldn’t potentially drill a mistake into the wooden door. It took forever to realize that with this kit you need to put the strike in first – I’ve always done that last!. However, on the plus side, they included everything you need.

Good quality door lock drilling guide!I selected the Ryobi door lock installation kit for an upcoming project I have where I will be making a solid wood entry door. Never having done any kind of work on doors, I am not sure what to expect, or what I will need. The door lock kit arrived well packaged. This kit has a bunch of parts, drill bits, hole saws, and adjustable shims built right into the template tool. Everything fits together nicely and has a quality feel to it. The instruction sheet is clear and easy to read. The only part that gave me a bit of hassle was the guide for the spade bit. It FEELS almost like there should be another piece there. I found that the guide wanted to wander and chatter a bit. I believe that prior generations of this tool used a hole saw; which seems like a safer option, even if more expensive to produce. If you are like me and new to building or hanging doors, I would recommend before taking on a door project that you do a little research, watch some videos on how to use these tools properly, and find a good solid piece of wood to practice on. Better to learn how to use the tool on scrap wood than on a few hundred bucks of door.

I have a large number of Ryobi tools and accessories so I thought I would try this kit. I must admit that the hardest thing using it was getting it our of that packaging! After I fought with the plastic for 30 minutes, the kit was intuitive to set up and easy to use.The jig is easy to align and drilling the hole is easy and fast. I tried it on a variety of door types and it performed as advertised. Just be careful when using it with doors that have glass as the vibrations can a little excessive, although that could have been my drilling style rather than the tool itself.Overall, it is good value for money.

This kit by Ryobi is for wood doors only. The plastic parts seem sturdy and the directions are fairly in-depth. I tend to think that this is not a beginner type project. You will need some woodworking experience or some experience installing door locks. I would want to practice on some lumber of the appropriate size before using it on a door since the cost of failure is high. Check out some videos of door lock installations on Youtube to understand the process. Make sure that your door width is one of the two sizes mentioned on the package ( 1 3/8 or 1 3/4) Also, make sure the lock set that you choose has either a 2 3/8 or 2 3/4 backset. You will need the Ryobi Door Latch Installation Router Guide to make the indentation on the door edge for the latch plate. It’s interesting that neither kit talks about how to install the strike plate (part on the door frame that receives the door latch). In my experience, this is the most frustrating part of the door lock installation process.I gave this 4 stars because this is a quality product, but might be too technical for the average homeowner.

As a one-time use tool, it is OK, but I wouldn’t want to do multiple doors with it. The instructions were vague and incomplete. The arbor for the hole saw wobbled on the bit, and the mounting face was crooked. This caused the hole saw to wobble when boring the hole. The hole saw got very hot during use. There needs to be a better clamping surface for the guide. The instructions say to screw the guide to the door, but this was imprecise, and insecure.

Overall I liked this product, but the biggest issue for me was that it was made of mostly lightweight plastic. Normally this wouldn’t bother me as much but this plastic is pretty flexible and flimsy feeling. For something as important as installing a door lock I wanted something much beefier and sturdy. It will do the job, but for the money I will look for something more sturdy next time.

Bought 10 non-bored doors to install doorknobs as my old doors knobs heights were all different. instead of cutting new strike latches, I decided to cut my own bores. Worked like a champ and looks like a pro did it.

Great product for the money. I wish that it came in a two sided model as I am re-boring door holes in a 40 year old home with 1-1/2″ door bores.

It is a good idea, but there is room for improvements. First I would make the door lock bracket a little larger so there would be an area or two to clamp it to the door. Second thing I would change is the hole saw and arbor. The hole saw and arbor are not threaded like the better ones and may be difficult to find a replacement hole saw. Also the better grade hole saws are deeper and some manufacturers even make a deep single tooth carbide hole saw that will go all the way through the door. I know this would significantly raise the cost so if you are going to install a door lock on very rare occasions this is better than nothing, but if you are going to do it often, I would consider see what other kits are available.

The Ryobi door lock installation kit comes with everything you need to install a lockset in any door, it is adjustable to thick and thin doors and guides you through the door straight. you get a hole saw for the handle hole and a paddle bit for the striker which is centered and guided to the handle hole. The guide assembly can be screwed to the door so you can work on a hanging door and it will align the striker plate for you. my complete assembly took no more than 15 minutes so it really speeds things up.

My neighbor lady wanted to learn how to install a door lock on a new door she purchased. I saw this as a perfect opportunity to teach her and this tool made it so much easier than the old method of measure, cut and chisel. So we got started today and it went very well, it cut the lock into the door with ease. She absolutely fell in love with the product. She did it all herself with minimal instruction from me…
