Easy to use and accurate!

I used it for a door project. It matched the door hardware perfectly. I did not use the top chisel tool. I used my own chisels and did a little with a Dremel tool.

If you are unsure how to install a deadbolt. You need to use the Ryobi tools to do the job right. I watched a video on YouTube and decided to purchase the Ryobi tools and how simple it was for a simple homeowner to do a wonderful job and it looks professionally installed

Haven Ullrich (verified owner) –
Great tool, Easy to use, completely eliminated the guess work and uncertainty usually involved in lining up deadbolts to the door jab

Started out good, almost ended bad. The chisel on the top bent and cut too deep. Barely salvaged the door and I won’t be able to use it again. I have several RYOBI tools so I am disappointed this didn’t work out the way I hoped.

It works semi-okay, but I still needed to do a lot more chisel work than the You Tube Videos led me to expect. The edges of the latch cutout ended up being more crushed than cleanly cut which made the recess look oversize for the installed latch and resulting in a sort of ragged and sloppy installed look. I also found that keeping the jig aligned vertically was harder than I expected as I just couldn’t see if I was holding it tight and straight while striking it, so my first strike ended up tilted somewhat and I had to forcefully counter twist the handle while finishing the rest of the job. My one door took 2 to 3 times longer than I expected and the results, although easier and better than straight hand chiseling, were not very clean looking. I ended up redoing the latch by using a router jig (also a Ryobi jig) to make it look better. With practice, some DIYers could likely get fine results, but I just don’t see the point if you have a lightweight or trim router and an inexpensive jig that costs about the same as this item.Bottom line is that if you only need to do one or two doors, it is cheap, and probably works well enough to meet most DIYer needs. On the other hand if you have a trim router and are going to change out more than a couple of latch sets, you will probably be better served by buying the Ryobi router version which is also cheap but is very fast, very easy to use and leaves a professional looking recess for the latch. That is what I did after using this non-router version on just one door latch.

Thought I would give it a try as I install several doors and locks a year. However if you’re going to do more than one or two doors this product isn’t for you. the plastic needs to be of stronger material as does the meatal for striking into the door. One use and it will be dull. Looked promising and price was enticing but not well built. I was to say disappointed with the product. I own many Ryobi products and this is the first time I had to say not good.
